Why are knives and glass shards sharper when wet?

Because the water acts like a lubricant to glide across and through the skin easier and faster.

Wet skin might be softer and easier to cut but is it true? I mean dry knives can be pretty sharp.

@kritiper got it. That is why people get a lot more flats when they ride a bicycle in the rain.
