@lucillelucillelucille it is forced out of them.
During her first week in kindergarten my daughter was disciplined for leaving her seat without permission. It made no difference that she explained she was getting tissue for a little girl who couldn’t stop crying.
The teacher told me in a way which directly hinted I should do something about it.
I did.
In front of said teacher I told my daughter that she should not leave her seat without permission, but I was very proud of her for looking after a classmate in pain.
My daughter, and consequently, I were in constant trouble her first three years there because the little girls wanted to greet each other with hugs and touching is forbidden.
This all took place in Reno, where there is a high school called Hug High, and their students staunchly defended their right to do just that, with help from the media. I bet a news clip could still be found by googling Hug High hugs, Reno, Nevada.
So, when they have their little souls sandpapered like that, is it any wonder they come out shiny little heartless china dolls?
Gawd! I couldn’t wait to get my daughter out of that tepid environment!
She still looks after sad little pals, it is only me she no longer cares about.
