Do you miss having a constant voice to remind us to disagree without being disagreeable?

Lisa. Auggie. She was a constant to remind us to be kind to one another. We don’t have that now.

Is this why some users reply with hurtful and unhelpful answers? Aren’t we better than this?

Augustlan was the beacon of reasoned calm for this place with the sort of disposition that will not be duplicated. No way in hell would we ever be that lucky twice.

I used to love how Augie would crack that whip with kindness and a gentle reminder.

It seems that not much has changed since my last time here.
Except new users and far less right leaning than before….
It’s understandable that not everyone is going to agree but
it’s strange that adults would even have to be scolded for rude behavior.
I do wonder what fellow members are like in person.

Not really. I do miss Auggie very much but there has always been a lot of contention on Fluther. I try to listen to the voice in my head telling me not to be an ass; sometimes I turn a deaf ear to that voice. I also try to scroll by or just read the OPs that make me see red.

I think the mods are doing a pretty good job of patrolling although things get fairly hot and heavy sometimes. Not many people here are shrinking violets though who can’t protect themselves.

All that being said, once again, yes, I do miss Auggie.

This role could only be filled, in my opinion, by someone who’s universally loved (and respected).
Although I think there might be one or two on here that would fit that (I won’t name names), I doubt that they have the natural (perceived) authority, and total likeability that Auggie had.
Some people have that, most have not.
And then a lot also depends on the members.
I can even imagine there are members here now that would totally go against Auggie (had she still be with us).

Generally speaking, we are not children who need babysat.

But we do tend to go for the kill, when someone mocks our beliefs.
Seen it, been guilty of it myself we should be better than that.

ucme with a whip? :D

That would be a calamity!
“ohh whip crack away…”

kritiper's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 It could be seen as “to go for the kill” but we can’t be blamed for standing up for ourselves.

Not really, no. As we are all adults, it falls on us alone to monitor our words and behavior at all times.

That being said, there are a few people here I still respect enough to listen if they told me I need to take it easy. Adirondack was that voice of reason for me, and I even chewed him once for overstepping the bounds of friendship in that regard.

Frankly, I love politics and debate, have since I was a pre-teen, and I think it’s sad that on THIS site, I’ve had to start skipping them more frequently now.

I literally miss her every single day, whether I’m on the site or not.
