Now that the election is over, will Trump get back to work for the next 2 months or will this time be wasted in meetings with lawyers over his perceived theft of the office?

We need to get back to straightening out things like Covid, the airlines that have furloughed thousands, a new stimulus package and on and on. The every day workings of a country. Is it possible? Will trump get back to work?

In today’s NY Times, Michael Cohen (Trump’s former enabler) suggested that Trump may go to Mar-a-lago for Christmas and never come back to Washington,.

When Hillary lost in 2016, Republicans accused Democrats of being in their Cry Closets and Safe Spaces, sucking their thumbs.

I am quite sure that now, Trump is in his Cry Closet and sucking his thumb. He won’t do anything except fight this humiliating loss. It really shouldn’t be so humiliating because it was very close. It would be humiliating if it were a big loss, like 70/30. However, he’ll be spiteful, do nothing, care about nothing, and only be available to consult with his legal team about lawsuits. He’ll also be tweeting asking for money and talking about voter fraud. My prediction until Jan 20, 21

Since Trump being active in governing will only cause more destruction, I’ll be just as happy if he sits in his bunker and cries for the next two months. My consolation is that anything he does at this point can be reversed immediately by the new administration.

canidmajor's avatar

I think there’s a good chance that his cronies will suggest ways that he can trash things quickly and nastily in the next two months.

jca2's avatar

He might put his energies to use by pardoning some awful criminals. That will be really spiteful but not surprising.

ragingloli's avatar

It will likely be a mix of frivolous lawsuits and a “scorched earth” policy.

kritiper's avatar

If he’s not with his lawyers he’ll be on the golf course.

Darth_Algar's avatar

“Back to work”? When did he ever start working?

Love_my_doggie's avatar

During the next two months, Trump will wreak as much havoc as possible. He’ll dismiss some key, government workers (three such people were fired over the weekend), plus he’ll pardon a collection of monsters.

Zaku's avatar

I’m sure he will try to make as much profit as he possibly can in the remaining months, racking up the emoluments clause violations by booking more government events at his own establishments, and doing as many things that his corporate and foreign string-pullers want, as he can. Especially the ones who offer his asylum from legal prosecution.

And oh yeah, the pardons… that list ought to be interesting…

In all truth, Trump pulled off an extraordinary feat. Frankly, I find it unbelievable that he managed so close a contest in view of his glaring and intransigent liabilities. With the intellectual component of his party in revolt and strenuously dedicated to his downfall and in the midst of disease he all but endeavored to ravage us all—the fool yet managed to nearly garner the votes necessary to torment the world for an additional 4 years. It’s a remarkably depressing achievement and terrifying commentary on the nation’s electorate and abstract thought.

^Good article. Thanks!

He will continue to line his pockets through self dealing, and begin issuing pardons for his family and his cohorts.

It’s Trump; what do you think?

Yes, some good things have happened while Trump has been in office. Some may happen from now until January 20th no matter what Trump does because not everything is a result of presidential action. I do think there is “more to do” but I don’t expect much in the next few months.

Were I in Trump’s shoes, I would devote myself to research around which countries are left without extradition treaties with the United States.

I think he will seize on any pretext to keep on holding rallies, because that’s what he lives for now: celebrity performances before rapturous large-scale audiences. This campaign is over? Sell tickets and then go out and shout about voter fraud. Or pretend to start a 2024 campaign, or promote the offspring. Or just promise sports-arena-type entertainment, excitement, passion, and merchandise. I don’t think he honestly cares what excuse it takes, as long as he has one.

Darth_Algar's avatar

^^^Yep. Attention is what he craves more than anything. He needs it. It is his drug and, like all junkies, he must seek out ever larger and more constant amounts to maintain the high.

jca2's avatar

Good points @Jeruba and @Darth_Algar. He has to feed that huuuuuuuge ego.

dabbler's avatar

Doesn’t the Trump campaign have some debt to pay off?
Some fundraising in progress now, for voter-fraud investigations and lawsuits, splits 50/50 with the campaign to pay off its debt. Having Trump out in the spotlight could help that effort.

I also hear there is a PAC being formed to support that 2024 run… I won’t be surprised if some of its goals are to clean up the 2020 campaign debt.

LadyMarissa's avatar

CNN has been following his schedule & he hasn’t done much of anything other than hold self-serving, super-spreader rallies since he went into Walter Reed with HIS virus…except to play golf.

Jeruba's avatar

I don’t know why people are bothering to talk about what he should do for the good of the country or for the sake of decency. We know what motivates him, and that’s not it. So offer him a huge amount of attention and money to drop the subject and go away.

Also tell him what he’ll be in for if he endangers national security, such as declassifying stuff that ought to stay classified and giving away top-secret information to adversaries. I don’t know what could possibly be more treasonous.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Maybe IF our tax dollars were used to give him a KFC or McDonalds franchise near Mar-a-Lago, he’d go to Florida & stay there…NYC doesn’t want him back!!!

jca2's avatar

And if he does go back to NYC, there’s a huge Black Lives Matter painted on the street right outside of Trump Tower. I’m sure he’ll love looking out his window and seeing that every day.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

It feels very unrealistic to think that President Trump will do anything of positive relevance in the next two months in office.

I suspect that his more loyal cronies will see the writing on the wall and will search for a new job; Melania will pack up early and take son Baron back to Florida, hoping that she can convince her husband to follow suit. The sooner, the better. Let him spend his days playing on a golf course and staying out of everyone else’s way.

Hopefully, a HAZMAT team will be deployed to clean the White House prior to the Bidens moving in. Between Joe’s previous experience and his respect of previous US presidents, he doesn’t need Trump to “pass the reigns”.

Nomore_lockout's avatar

Give the guy a break, he has a lot of tweeting to do. And the putting green awaits.

chyna's avatar

It’s been over a week since the election and trump still has done nothing. He has not addressed the nation about the alarmingly increase in Covid-19 cases, he has said nothing about helping out people that are jobless, nothing about a new stimulus. Apparently he is just pouting in his office and he’s not taking care of business. I do not understand why anyone would think trump is a great leader. He is not leading.

Jeruba's avatar

@chyna, he’s not a leader. Never was. He’s a performer, and that’s about it.

chyna's avatar

@Jeruba And not a good performer.

Jeruba's avatar

So true.

ragingloli's avatar

More scorched earth:

He is now replacing top officials at the Pentagon with drumpf loyalists.
And he is demanding a list of the people who cheered on one of those fired officials when he left, presumably to fire them/enact retribution upon them, too.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@Nomore_lockout I have a suggestion as to where me might put his putter, but I’m afraid he’d ENJOY it waayyy too much!!!

janbb's avatar

^^ Yes, that is appalling!

jca2's avatar

Now’s the time Trump is going to really throw his hissy fits and blame everyone for his failure to win the election. I’m sure Chris Krebs doesn’t mind getting tossed off this disaster, and if he was good, Biden can hire him back.

chyna's avatar

What I would like to know is, after he tosses these people to the curb, who in their right mind would take the vacant position for less than 2 months and why?

jca2's avatar

@chyna: Nobody, unless maybe it’s someone who might feel they have a chance of staying on with Biden.

canidmajor's avatar

@jca2 Or, unless they believe that a coup will be successful.

jca2's avatar

@canidmajor: Yeah true. I think they think that marching in the street is the way to get their boy to stay.

Darth_Algar's avatar

Or they still think that associating with Trump will do anything other than ruin their reputation.

chyna's avatar

^Giuliani looks ridiculous with his hair dye running down his face as he begs a judge to ignore voters constitutional rights to have their votes counted.

janbb's avatar

Can we take bets on how much of the $20,000 a day that Giuliani is charging Trump he will collect?

raum's avatar

@ragingloli This timeline is unreal.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@chyna I know plenty of people who would jump at the chance to be fired by #45. They would gasm over the chance to say that they had worked for him (even IF for only 2 months). Sad but true. Of course, NONE of these people would ever be considered for any of the open positions, but they’d kiss his ass very well until the front door was locked behind him & all the locks were changed!!!
