“Great Question” (1points)

Nowadays, people are living longer than ever, and in circumstances in which a doctor could end their suffering. Some American doctors have been arguing for a patient’s right to choose death, and for them to be able to assist in the process.

No, it does not violate the Hippocratic oath.

Refusing to assist and leave someone to die a prolonged agonizing death would be a violation of the Hippocratic Oath.

This is not argued in the civilized states.

Physicians don’t take the Hippocratic Oath. It’s an antiquated text that has no relevance to modern medicine.

@Darth_Algar is absolutely correct.
This is the oath I took.

@Caravanfan

Correct me if I am mistaken, but even at that isn’t it more a matter of ceremony than an actual requirement to practice medicine?

Death with dignity is controversial but I think it’s a mercy in many cases.

@Darth_Algar Of course. We all said it at our graduation ceremony as a matter of ritual, but it is certainly not required.
