I don’t understand the comparisons. What is Pearl olive – a lot or a little?

si3tech's avatar

Do not see comparison.

Small to large. A tiny amount to a lot. Diminutive to gigantic.

One olive (“pearl”): about 3 grams. One average large watermelon: 9071.85 grams (20 lb). So a scale of about 1 to 3000.

My guess is that a pearl olive is about the same size as a pearl, or perhaps a pea.

I’m hungry with all of this talk of olives and watermelons.

I’m ok hearing about politics, because politics was always a big part of the news in the US. What I’m sick of hearing about is Donald Trump. That, I’ve had about enough of. That, I’m about done with.

cookieman's avatar

@Jeruba gets it. It’s a visual metaphor people.

Now carry on.

I’m with @jca2. For 4 years all I heard was about Trump. I’ll be happy with just everyday politics and discussing policies and goals to improve the lives of citizens, and only hear from any future President or about them when something important that affects our lives actually happen. Not because something was tweeted because the President is upset about not getting on a magazine or because someone said something about him and he has to spend the day tweeting insults. You know. Real news about our government running in an adult fashion. Though I’m sure its not going to happen with the Republicans in the Senate.
So many of them have shown that their behavior can rival Trumps behavior. I mean, I’m sure some of them were already like that but they at least acted better in public. Now they all act like the crazy uncle you hate to see on Holidays who will say anything to get attention.
I’m probably somewhere in the melon range.

Sick or not, the question is more about whether or not you can afford to ignore it. There was a time when I thought it possible, and lived as though I could get away with it. It worked, but I have since come to understand that the old adage of God looking out for children and fools is no longer a reliable dictum.

Politics is one of my interests, so I doubt I’ll ever get entirely sick of it in the most general sense. I’m sick of a lot of the talk about politics, certainly.

JLeslie's avatar

I’m at about a cantaloupe.

I don’t want to hear politics constantly, and am especially tired of hearing about Trump. Stop giving him attention for his antics is how I feel about most of it, except for things that really do matter. Plus, you all know I feel cable news and some periodicals go too far in how much they criticize him about meaningless things when there is so many really important things to report about what he does.

Now, the “news” is talking about vaccines not being rolled out fast enough. Ok, we knew there might be some problems, let’s just work on fixing the snags. The states are the ones giving out the shots not Trump.

Maybe at the fed level they could have done a better job, but here in my state, in Florida, some counties seem more on top of it than others. I kind of blame my governor and local leaders for that.

I just heard on a CNBC interview where the journalist mentioned the national guard might be called in in some states to help deliver vaccines. I felt like she was saying some states can’t get their act together and calling in the guard. Using the National Guard has always been the plan in my state. The national guard also helped us with testing in lesser served areas back in March, April, and May. I think that was a good thing, not a sign of a problem.

Can’t we try to be more productive?

Tired of it. Tired of bending truth constantly to fit a narrative.

cookieman's avatar

Thank you @JLeslie for playing along. Cantaloupe it is.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Watermelon.
If people were educated with facts magically, it wouldn’t be as painful to listen to.

cookieman's avatar

@KNOWITALL: Agreed. I hate that we even have to debate what a ‘fact’ is.

Also, with or without seeds??

elbanditoroso's avatar

Maybe when the new president is in place, some of the politics talk will reseed (pun intended)

janbb's avatar

Make mine a banana split please. I don’t even like to argue any more when people are obviously just plain wrong! :-)

KNOWITALL's avatar

@cookieman Actually I hate watermelon’s texture so hard pass.
Watermelon-flavored jolly ranchers are about as far as I’ll get. Haha!

Jeruba's avatar

I can’t actually think of much that’s in between cantaloupe and watermelon, except maybe a good-sized honeydew.

Or a Halloween pumpkin. I’ll take that one. I’m Halloween-pumpkin sick of politics. But not, alas, done with it all yet.

And it isn’t going to be over on January 20th.

cookieman's avatar

@KNOWITALL: How ‘bout watermelon slush?

@Jeruba: I think I’m right there with you in pumpkin-level of fed upness.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

About a Crabapple ,I am sick of American politics and how it has affected us north of the border.
I hope 2021 calms down and we work together to get covid19 under control and help all our economies get healthy once again.

Jeruba's avatar

@SQUEEKY2, I’ve been curious about how much interest you northerners take in our sorry 2020 politics. It’s really a shame that it messes with your comfort level as much as our own, when you didn’t play any part in this mess. I hope we all get better quickly, now that we’ve taken our medicine.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@cookieman I’m in. :)

SQUEEKY2's avatar

@Jeruba It started with his needless tariffs on us.

Jeruba's avatar

@SQUEEKY2, that was so misguided and embarrassing. Presidential misbehavior is one thing, but that shamed all of us. I hope somehow we can put it right, and I am glad that you (unlike some folks I know) don’t paint us all with one brush.

rockfan's avatar

I enjoy talking about politics, but I can’t stand the 24 news cycle from mainstream media. It drives me crazy, which is why I only catch it on tv once or twice a month. I prefer reading print media when it comes to politics and news.

JLoon's avatar

I’m at the giant pumpkin phase – Disgust x 100.

I honestly think porn is healthier and more ethical.

stanleybmanly's avatar

And less destructive. But unlike porn, if you dare to ignore it, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get fucked.

JLoon's avatar

@stanleybmanly – True thing. AND it’s less fun, but way more expensive ;)
