Was she putting me down?

“Great Question” (2points)

Not sure what to think of this. Stopped by a grocery store on my way home from work, to get some beer. Ran into an old flame I hadn’t seen or thought about in years. She was cordial and so I walked her to her car to say goodbye. Then she looked at my six-pack, and says, “Well I see you haven’t given THAT up.” Then she told me she had a song I should listen to when I got a chance. I told her ok, I’ll check it out on You Tube. “Paper Roses” by Marie Osmond. Listened to it on my phone on my way home and was kind of pissed off. Anyway, was that supposed to be a put down or insult? Not sure what to make of that. Any opinions, input?

Sounds like it, considering the lyrics.
ETA after reading your post. I doubt she was still pissy, that implies she has been pissy all along. Maybe she thought you were a huge asshole at the end and that perception was triggered by seeing you again. We tend to smooth out stuff in our memories.

Haven’t seen or heard from that woman is over 40 years, wasn’t even aware she was still living in this area. And I admit we have a history, but that was a hell of a long time ago, to still be pissy with me. Not that I give a rats butt, but when I checked that song out I felt like she was calling me an asshole. Go figure.

Yes. She was letting you know that, in her opinion, you hadn’t changed and the beer thing was a non-starter with her when the two of you were an item, and that it still was.

@kritiper Oh well. Five years from now she’ll never know the difference. I got no time to sweat hateful people. You may be right, but I enjoy my beer. Always have, always will.

@Nomore_lockout I’m totally with you on that. For the most part, women want men to just be themselves, but it doesn’t always work out in their eyes. “Unto thine own self be true.”

@kritiper You, I like. You are a gentleman and a scholar sir.

Sounds to me like you have been living rent free in her head for 40 years, and she just renewed the lease! She knows how to hold on to a grudge….

Nomore_lockout's avatar

No shit, @zenvelo Who holds a grudge for that freaking long? I never did anything to her anyway, I just let it go because she was moving to fast for me. But no big deal, shit’s rough all over. PS that beer went down smooth. LOL

There’s nothing wrong with a beer sometimes and the lyrics are only about fake love. If you were kids you didnt know any better. Sounds kooky to me.

Don’t sweat the petty stuff, & don’t pet the sweaty stuff. What difference does it make as to what she thinks about you??? IF she can hold a grudge for that long, you don’t need her back in your life!!! I wouldn’t give her a 2nd thought!!! Your wife loves you just like you are…6 pack & all!!! Your children stomp on your last nerve, but you wouldn’t have it any other way. Doubt that you’ll be asking her to marry you anytime soon, so her opinion is worth NOTHING!!!
