There is not and never was “free” speech on a privately owned site. He can have all the free speech he wants on his own site, which he is already using.
Facebook is not doing anything to prevent him from saying whatever he wants to say. They just don’t owe him a place to do it. They are not silencing him. They have no power to gag him.
People have a right to assemble, but I don’t have to let them do it in my house.
Freedom of speech is completely misunderstood.
There is no right to yell “Fire!” In a crowded theater.
Facebook is beginning to recognize its responsibility.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Just to remind everybody what “free speech” actually is.
Facebook has 3 billion viewers and I can understand why it doesn’t want to promulgate any statement that might encourage violence. Trump’s rights to free speech are unaffected and he is in fact launching a new website which will have press releases and content “straight from the desk” of Donald Trump. He will be free there to say what he likes whether it be true, false, arrant nonsense, manipulative crap or downright offensive nastiness as long as he stays within the law.
A sleezy lawyer could also argue that Trump’s freedom of assembly is also hindered, because Facebook’s dominates so much of the media that it could be a public place, for humans to assemble.
