“Great Question” (0points)

In “The Perfect Storm” one male says that to another male, which pissed him off and he hit him upside the head with a pool cue.
So what does it mean?

Well Dutchess…I’ve been searching for about an hour. I give up and am going to bed. LOL

It’s a pool term referring to the angle of a great shot that puts several balls in the pockets.

Search me. Never heard that term in my life. I have seen the movie, but I’d have to view it again to get the context. Don’t really recall that scene. All I know is that if I was in the middle of the ocean and saw a giant ass wave coming at me, as in the end of that movie, I’d have better things to do than whack some chump with a pool cue. Yeah chief, you won. I’m outta here.

The script reads “cut squid” not squared which doesn’t make much sense either but they were talking about pool just before.

“Cut squid” is part of the work of using squid as fishing bait. One uses squid to catch fish, then haul them in and put to bed, i.e., put the catch in the hold until you get to port.

I thought it had to having the sailboat turn in a particular way by adjusting the sail, and then leaving it there for a while.

@elbanditoroso I’ve been around a lot of sailors and have never heard that term. I think you’re talking about setting the sails and staying on a particular tack or course.

Both @YARNLADY and @zenvelo‘s interpretations sound plausible but are totally different. I wonder what it does mean.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well it was meant to be an insult.

I answered to “cut, squared” and Zenvelo answered to “cut squid”, two different sayings.
