Are there any Android/Samsung experts on here that can help me with a phone issue?

“Great Question” (1points)

I have a new Samsung A21 which I purchased in the spring, and just got hooked up around Memorial Day weekend (end of May). Sometimes, maybe once a week, the phone won’t send texts. It will receive texts, but not send. I will get a failure message. I will try repeatedly and I keep getting the failure message. It may or may not cut phone calls off, too.

This has happened three separate times in the past three weeks. All three times, the next day the phone works fine. Facebook, Google, Waze, Shazam all worked fine while I had the texting problem.

In my quest to figure out what the problem is, I have deleted Facebook and deleted Messenger, thinking maybe it would help.

I had the problem last night, then this morning it was sending texts fine, and now I have it again. I’m on the verge of returning the phone but don’t want to do that if there is a simple fix.

The phone is not in Airplane mode and the texting issue will occur without anything being pressed. Another detail is it happens when I’m out as well as when I’m home (so I don’t believe it’s a WiFi issue).

Please help!

You need to call your service provider. There could be a problem with the towers or the switches.
In the meantime, if it happens again, turn your phone off and back on.

@Dutchess_III: All three times, I have turned it off and back on repeatedly and no change.

What mobile phone company are you using?

Texting is separate from data and voice, so data may work, i.e. Google while you can’t send a text.

@Tropical_Willie: I’m using Cricket Wireless.

My previous Samsung, I had Cricket as well, for at least four years and no problems like this.

Hmmm…I have Cricket and have had no problems. Love Cricket – unlimited text and phone for $30/month. I pay 4 months at a time.

This might be less of a phone hardware issue and more of a cell phone service provider issue. I don’t know that much about cell phone services in the US other than, when I go there, it is horrendous. I have had to travel a great deal for my job in the past and the worst cell phone service and coverage I got was in the US. Honestly, I got better cell phone reception in the Republic of Congo.

I can’t speak specifically to the Galaxy 21 phone, but I have a colleague who had a problem, and a person at the Verizon store fixed it. You might try going in person to a store. Another idea is to search user forums on the internet. Do a Google search describing your issue. You’re sure to get a user forum. Those are often very helpful.

Ditto @smudges we have Cricket and never have issues. So I just don’t know.

A few things to consider/look into:

- What app are you using for texting? I didn’t see this menitioned. Are you using Google Messages, Samsung Messages, Textra, Signal, Yaata, etc?
– If you’re using Google Messages, are you enrolled in RCS? RCS (Rich Communication Services) can cause some hiccups in certain scenarios, including old threads that were created prior to enrolling in RCS. If you’re attempting to diagnose the problem, try disabled RCS (“Chat Services”) in your app.
– If you’re not using Google Messages, try it instead of whatever proprietary app you’re using.

I just think there are Cellular issues. Everyone seems to be having problems.
