It means that person is using a social media platform such as Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram to broadcast live video of them doing something, answering questions, interacting with followers, etc.

Here, “streaming” equals “broadcasting”. Like live television.

That if you tune in you can watch the action in real time or more commonly known as live.

Where I live there are live cameras at all of the town squares and you can watch any time on YouTube, or the community app, or the community website. We call it live cam, because it’s only video without sound, but it’s a form of live streaming. You can also stream our radio station on the app or on the website, you don’t have to listen on a radio.

We also have had live stream of our performing arts venue on Facebook during covid in real time. Our symphony did it the most. There were people at the theatre and also we could watch on Facebook. It was really nice. It was free on Facebook.

On some social media, viewers can chat live with each other during the live stream. They can voice their thoughts, and respond to what others are saying.
Some people record video, then post it as a live stream, even though the event is over so they can edit first, then they can join in the live chat.

@YARNLADY: Some examples I can think of for you are if there’s some type of crime or emergency event in a neighborhood, someone will go out with their cell phone and do a live stream on Facebook, where you can look in real time (meaning right now, not pre-taped) and see what’s going on right now. You can see emergency responders or a fire or something, as it happens.

Another example is someone will do a tutorial on Facebook, where it’s live. Someone will do a live stream of a furniture refinishing tutorial, where they might say “Hi folks, it’s Friday night and today I’m going to refinish a dresser” and you can pop on and see how many people are currently watching with you.

A third example is if someone goes to a concert, they might stream it live. A friend was at a Guns and Roses concert the other night and she live streamed it, so I could watch and her friends could watch. It was kind of like being at the concert with her (not as good, and not as loud), fun!

Yes, it’s just a live stream so you can interact and watch in real time.

For example, I was at an open air event yesterday (social distanced!) and live streamed the performances since many here are still on quarantine.

@jca2 I’ve watch some without even realizing what they were. My son in Ireland does them once in awhile and I get to talk to him “live”.
I have zoom, but it makes me too nervous to use it.
