I was fine and as active as possible at age 62, still hiking and skiing mountains, running 10Ks and 10 milers.

Age 63 is when I had stents put in, put on a wider range of heart medications.

If “middle age” means the middle of your life, anything over 45–50 is too optimistic as most folks don’t live past 90–100.

As of 2018, the average age of death in the US was 78. Based on that, middle age would be 39.

I don’t know. I’m supposedly 45. I’ve read that that’s “middle aged”.

I’ve convinced myself I’m a vampire, and celebrate my 28th each year.

Just off the top of my head, I’d say mid to late 40’s?

My cardiologist, who is 70+, told me he was middle aged.
I asked if he expects to live to be 140.

Just based on my opinion and perceptions, I think that middle age starts at 50.

I used to think it started at 40, but as I age, my perception changes.

A friend just had an offense committed against she and her husband by their son, and the police worded the report and charges as “against the elderly” and my friend is 62. We were talking about how we don’t consider her “elderly” but maybe technically she is.

^^^^ @jca2 It qualifies for elder abuse! And while the victim may not think of it that way, it needs to be proseduted that way, otherwise it destroys people.

@zenvelo: I know. The DA charges it as they charge it, regardless of the parents’ opinions.

I remember when I was in high school, my mom was turning 40 and my best friend’s mom was turning 40. We were both depressed, talking about how our moms are old now that they’re turning 40. My daughter will never have that feeling, because she was born when I was 41. My mom had her second child (my sister) at 41 and my aunt had her son at 41.

I tell people all the time that when I was little, people in their 40s looked way different than they do now (at least in the area I live in).

One of my coworkers told me when Carroll O’Connor started playing Archie Bunker, he was 49. I didn’t believe it because he looked unlike any 49 year old that I know. I googled it and it’s true. He had those old man pants, and his hair was white and messy. Nobody who I know who’s 49 looks like that now. Maybe 70, and not even then.

I was 40 when my son was born, 42 when my daughter was born. When I went to my daughter’s kindergarten back to school night, she had classmates whose parents were toddlers when I was in college.

When All in The Family started, Mike and Gloria were college students, so Archie being 49 was right in line. But Archie was part of the “greatest generation” of WWII veterans.

@zenvelo: My point wasn’t that Archie was 49. I’m not sure how old Archie was supposed to be in the show. My point was that Carroll O’Connor was 49 when he started playing Archie, and he, at 49, looked nothing like what 49 year olds look like now.
