“Great Question” (2points)

I just need to know, I don’t want to explain my situation, so I will just repeat the question “Is it wrong-illegal- for a 18 year old to send a nude to his 17-soon to be 18-girlfriend?”

It is technically illegal as sending pornographic material to a minor (at least in the US).

Wait a few months until she is 18, then it is perfectly legal.

chyna's avatar

Not worth going to jail for and being on a sex registry for the rest of your life. Just wait til she’s 18.

canidmajor's avatar

What at @cookieman and @chyna said. And even after she’s 18, ask her if it’s OK.

kritiper's avatar

Until she is of legal age, yes.

She might find it tasteless/disgusting and shun you for thinking she’d like it.

When i doubt, LEAVE IT OUT!!! I don’t care IF she’s turning 18 tomorrow, TODAY she is still 17 aka a minor.Even IF she doesn’t mind receiving it today, her parents might NOT find it funny & can still file charges!!! ALSO…to her parents, ONE day after her birthday, she is still their LITTLE girl so NO sense of humor!!! Even IF it’s considered legal, her parents could make your life miserable!!!

I don’t know about sending pictures, but I think most age-of-consent laws include something like an exemption for people within two years of age of each other.

JLoon's avatar

In strictly legal terms – Maybe, maybe not.

In the US over 20 states have statutes that set 16 as the lawful age of consent for sexual relations :

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_the_United_States

But is it “wrong”? If you’re thinking of sending her your penis portrait without even asking, it’s uncool and disrespectful.

Don’t be a dick.

filmfann's avatar

is it wrong?

Yes

is it illegal?

Also yes.

rebbel's avatar

Also, what makes men think women like penisses (that is, on their 6 inch phone screens, full frontal)?
It’s not that special as you yourself think.
And, like @canidmajor suggested as well; don’t send nudes unsolicited.

janbb's avatar

@rebbel Alas, my phone is just a mini!

chyna's avatar

Penises are not pretty.

KRD's avatar

It is not legal to send pornographic photos to people under 18.

What happened to romance?

Inspired_2write's avatar

Wrong or illegeal ?
I think its a sign of a very immature person of which one day it will resurface in a job interview.

SEKA's avatar

It’s called contributing to the delinquency of a minor—at least in the US of A

Thank you @rebbel. I’m with you. She probably would be disgusted.

Legality aside, it would be in very poor taste.

You ask some strange, kinda scary questions. Look back at them as a collection. Is that how you want to portray yourself to strangers? Sure, you can ask many different things here; just sayin’. . .are those topics representative of your true personality? and you’re only 18? Don’t think I want to know you at 28. Just a wee bit scary.

I’ll just add that it’s a really stupid thing to do. Those pictures can come back to haunt you. Never post anything anywhere that you would mind showing up in a newspaper.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@Caravanfan reminded me of a local woman who was 29 & knew better had taken a bunch of nudes & kept them on her phone so she’d have them when she needed them. She always had her phone with her so she felt safe & protected. While she was shopping, someone stole her purse with her phone in it. Next thing she knew her mother was receiving nudes of her. Then her dad was receiving nudes of her. Finally, her preacher started receiving nudes of her. Later on, many of her friends were receiving nudes of her.Her friends forwarded them to ALL their friends & pretty soon the WHOLE town knew what she looked like in ALL her glory!!! Rule of thumb…IF you wouldn’t send it to your mother, DON’T send it to anyone else!!!

KRD's avatar

@LadyMarissa‘s answer is a great rule of thumb! Never keep pictures of that on your phone otherwise if a thief got the phone they could send the pictures to everyone on your contacts or threaten to show them to everyone on said contacts if you don’t do what they say. Just don’t keep stuff like that on your phone or better yet, don’t take pictures like that at all.

I’ve seen a lot of news items lately where 16 and17 y/o males are committing suicide because their gf asked them to send her a nude. They did and soon thereafter the boys started being blackmailed with “if you don’t pay us x amount of dollars, I’m going to send your nudes to everyone you know.” The boys didn’t have the money requested and was too embarrassed to tell their parents and they thought they could deal with it on their own. No matter what they did the blackmailers pushed harder and harder until they broke under the pressure. Eventually, suicide seemed to be their only way out of the pain and embarrassment. The phones were burner phones so nobody to trace them back to

smudges's avatar

@SEKA Yes, I saw one of those news shows about that (48 Hours or 20/20 or something) and they caught a 20 or 30-something woman doing it in California. She would lead them on, pretending to be interested and after a period of times she would begin asking for photos. She actually did send pics to their friends in school.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@smudges I mentioned this because the OP is dating a girl he met online & I’d HATE to hear that he followed the same path!!!

LadyMarissa's avatar

This was on the news this morning. Fortunately the mother discovered the truth BEFORE her son died!!!

kruger_d's avatar

Regardless of whether it was requested, it is not a healthy way to start an intimate relationship.

KRD's avatar

@smudges I don’t like how people are doing that.
