I used to have a boss whose last name was Dick. I won’t say what her first name was because she is probably still alive, living in Florida. She said her daughter became a doctor and changed her name because she didn’t want to be known as “Doctor Dick.”

I worked with a woman named Karen W Jr. She was named after her mom Karen W.

I occasionally work on my family tree. One marriage took place between the Savages and the Flippens. I like to imagine them hyphenating their names, and the kids being referred to as the Flippen-Savages.

My minister named his son Noah.

janbb's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 So what? That’s a reasonable name.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@janbb It was fitting. No dis-respect intended. It is the first time hearing someone called a name from the bible. I would like to know how he turned out. He should be a young adult by now.

His father preformed exorcisms on the mentally ill, and me twice. Even in the middle of a meeting. It seems fitting that he would call his son Noah.

My minister broke into tears in the middle of a group meeting later saying that he had no idea what he was doing. It was the first time that I agreed with him.

RocketGuy's avatar

Not unexpected. My Christian friend named his sons Joshua and Jonah.

jca2's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1: the name Rebecca is very common, and is biblical. Noah is not uncommon, n either is Joshua. David is a very popular biblical name.

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 Biblical names are very common in the US.

Demosthenes's avatar

Biblical names are common, but it’s interesting how some have fallen out of favor. In the 19th century, you come across many men named Gamaliel, but that name is rarely seen today. Other names, like Ichabod and Adlai, never seem to have caught on widely (in the former case, a certain literary example might have rendered that name to permanent disuse).

jca2's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 The name Mary is mentioned in the Bible over 50 times. I’m sure you have heard of people named Mary.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@jca2 Yes. I have a family member with Mary as her middle name. I mainly ment hardcore historical names. Like Methesula, Noah, Spartacus, Ceasar, ect.

jca2's avatar

I don’t think Spartacus, Caesar or Methusula are in the Bible, @RedDeerGuy1.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@jca2

” Render unto Caesar ” is the beginning of a phrase attributed to Jesus in the synoptic gospels, which reads in full, “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s” [Matthew 22:21]

Methuselah is a biblical patriarch mentioned in Genesis 5:21–27, as part of the genealogy linking Adam to Noah. The following is taken from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible:

Spartacus was from the golden age of movies. I’m not sure that it is real or fiction? It would be
audacious to name their child Spartacus. Like if one named their child Einstein.

WhyNow's avatar

As for Spartacus… I will guess his real name was Acus who was a very good
warrior, so good everybody wanted to learn from him. Let’s go spar with Acus
was so common it became Spartacus! I made that up.
