What did you do with the time in previous years?

I never had this much time off. I’m not sure why this year is different but I’ll take it!

You need more holodeck time TRENDY. Just don’t spend it all on here.

Maybe link up with some friends who are just as bored, and form a gang. A nice, polite gang that doesn’t break laws or upset anyone…

But if you do go bad call me.

My first year of college I had a full month off.

I got a job at Macy’s for the first three weeks as part of Christmas staffing, and earned enough to go skiing for a week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

You’re counting weekends, right? It’s not an unbroken stretch of 30 days.

So how many weekdays (days that would normally be school days) do you actually have off at the end of the year—i.e., over Christmas and New Year’s?

@zenvelo, that was back before we had lightning-fast computers. You could get a check in a day. Now it takes three weeks.

As a high school student, I used to write a lot. Spend time with old friends who didn’t go to my school. Learn about things that interested me, but in fun ways – for example, reading pop psychology books like You Are Not So Smart. Fluther, obviously (which is a type of learning). Long walks with my dog.

Don’t underestimate downtime. It’s so important for your mental health. Not just in the moment, but also for the rest of your life – your unscheduled time is practice for figuring out what you like, what your body needs, what makes you feel good, what makes you feel alive. If you’re always following a program, you might as well be a robot.

Why would I? I think it’s great though….enjoy yourself!

That’s too much time off, so it’s probably a clerical error.

You should continue to toil with your textbooks, just in case it is. ;p

Professor here: I have 4-weeks off between semesters this year too. Last year I had 6.

I use that time to rest and recharge, catch up on reading and shows/movies, clean up and catalog the previous semester, and get ready for the next semester.

Get outside too. Take walks. Go on a long, aimless drive with someone you love. Hang with your pets and family. Day dream. Create for fun and play without purpose.

You’ll go back to school refreshed and ready to roll.

@Jeruba 16 school days and the rest are weekends but altogether still a LOT of days.
I still think @Brian1946 is my mom! I’m got a LOT of free time to figure this out…hummm ;)

A somewhat counter idea since you say you want to go to college. Maybe get a hold of some of the college reference books like Barron’s and start dreaming of where you might want to go. Colleges that Change Lives highlights some smaller different schools that you might not have heard of.

Write an essay.
Read books.
Do more physical exercise.
Clean your room.
Then do a little goofing off.

I do lots of sleeping during my annual 4 weeks of paid vacation.

Oh, I love working out. Yoga, bicycling, dancing, and walking everywhere. I intend to check out several colleges and read as much as I can. Since I won’t be able to drive myself that may play a factor in my choices unless we figure something else out.

When I was a teenager I would relax, catch up on sleep, watch TV, spend some time with friends, go to the movies, and be so glad I didn’t have to go to school. I also worked from the age of 14 until I moved for college, with some breaks in there. Since the holidays are a big retail time, and I worked selling clothing, I was working part of my Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks.

Develop a hobby, read, travel, etc.
