“Great Question” (0points)

I finally finished watching the first episode for the first time, on my third attempt since it aired in 2019. I still couldn’t get into it and wondering if watching the second episode will have a chance of enticing me to keep watching.

This seems to be from a popular book and also a popular series having its three seasons on TV. Thanks.

Well, Jimmy Carr is just a great comedian.

“This seems to be from a popular book”.
Yes, you could say that.

If it doesn’t work for you then don’t watch it.

I usually like stories that involve parallel universes but I had to give up on this one.

I’m in the same boat you are. I have friends who have recommended it to me, but I start the first episode and am underwhelmed and my ADHD kicks in and I go do something else and never come back to it. I understand some shows start slow. Indeed, some of my favorite series of all time were poor starters. So I am inclined to think I should power through, but I’ll be peeking at this thread to see how many people give it a strong endorsement.

^^To me it feels like they wrote the pilot for people who had already read the book.

There was the familiar show opening teaser with a few text describing the world you’re about to see but the minimal excitement I took from it gradually fizzled less than ten minutes in.

Could it be plot turns were made without the necessary build-up?

I didn’t like the book although i often like books in that genre so have no interest in trying the show.

^^Just remember I do own a digital copy of the book. Haven’t read it yet.

I loved the series.

The trilogy is one of my favorite book series. The second book “The Subtle Knife” is one of my favorite books of all time.

I have tried to watch the show a few times and I just cannot get into it, and I can’t even say why.
It has none of the pull the books do. I think the horrible movie was better than the show.

^^The movie was underwhelming and suffered from the same exposition problems this TV pilot episode have for me. There’s too much info dumping going on not enough build-up. Was hoping this TV series would be different.

In reality, I’m not sure HDM can be successfully translated to the screen. The plot is one of the least interesting things about the books.
