Firefighters seemed to gain a lot of respect after 9/11. Nurses and other medical professionals seemed to gain a lot of respect during and since the pandemic.
Police used to be highly respected but seemed to lose a lot of respect after the George Floyd murder and since there are more incidents of police brutality on video (starting with Rodney King in the 1990s).
I’m trying to think of what professions I personally respect. I respect the individual person more. I worked as a caseworker for many years, and there were really great, hardworking ones and there were many overzealous, authoritarian ones who thought they were the Judge and the Jury. I respect a lot of tradesmen, who work hard, and work long hours, but in that profession, there are ones that are liars and cheaters. There are wonderful, caring clergymen, but there are some that used that power to molest children.
Just thinking about it, I respect the individual more than I can say I respect any one particular profession.
