Some keyboards allow you to swipe a word, some don’t. I do believe that with most cells, you have control over how you use your phone because there’s almost always an app for that. It’s just deciding what you want to do & researching which app will make you happy.
As far as I know, all smartphones are capable of swiping without doing anything to it. You simply put your finger on the first letter, swipe to the next, and so forth until you’ve spelled the word.
I tap, but my child swipes, and I am amazed at the (admittedly) odd erudition of her autocorrect. It’s interesting to guess what the word was meant to be.
For example, recently, an attempt at “popular” autocorrected tp “puerile”.
That’s the way I feel about cell phones!^^^
It’s a phone,it’s for giving and receiving messages,I have friends that tell me they don’t even turn on their computer anymore they do it all through their cell phone.
I don’t want nor need to be that connected to the internet ,I am on it enough.
@kritiper do you have to touch the screen to answer? My phone has “answer” and “decline” on the screen and I have to tap it or swipe it or in some way touch the screen in order to access the call, otherwise it just rings and goes to voicemail.
@jca2 There is no screen. It’s just an old fashioned land-line wall phone. The (separate) Caller ID (function) shows me who is calling and allows me to answer or not.
@gondwanalon LOL, no kidding. So does mine. Sometimes I have to poke and jab and slash. Especially if my fingers are cold. Hey, for those of you with the same issue I learned this trick from a cashier who had to deal with customers who had issues with self-check out touch screens. If you bend your index finger and touch the screen with the back of the second knuckle below the nail.
It does work if you hands are horribly cold. I think its because their is less flesh between your vein behind that knuckle than there is at the tip of your fingers.
