I thought it was hilarious and the tunes were catchy. I’ve spent a lot of time in community theater doing non-musical plays and am not one to listen to show tunes, but I listened to those.
There’s a blasphemous part that is super gratutitous—that was probably the most difficult thing about it for me. It also satirizes Mormon dogma very cleverly, but in a way that will generate body heat for any true believer of any organized religion (much as Monty Python’s Life of Brian did).
I also liked that the script calls for a diverse cast.
I’d see it again, and I’d see a local production of it if one every came out.
