Hypothetically, how much of a nest egg do you feel you need at retirement age?

“Great Question” (4points)

Counting investments, pensions if any, Social Security, etc. if you were around seventy, how much net worth do you feel you will or would need to feel secure financially?

Just curious what the hive mind feels.

I think I’d need to around $500,000 to feel really comfortable. I’d want a lot of it to just feel safe in case of emergencies, and another good amount to travel.

Up here it’s said you should have about 2.2 million.
With Property and investments might come close to half that.

Depends on how long you plan on living.
I plan on maintaining my current lifestyle of activities and travel for as long as I can.
I feel I need about 70–80% of my current monthly income for Investments, SS, Pension. I think I am in pretty good shape for that currently.

I have no other means than SS. So I put off taking it until I was 70 so I can get as much as possible, which is about 50% more per month than I am taking in now.
I suggest everybody wait for SS until they’re 70. (For every year I put it off I gained (approximately) an extra $100 per month.)

^^ That’s excellent! Quite an improvement! I had to “retire” and go on disability when I was 51. :( If I had saved the money left to me by all of my relatives passing away I’d be a millionaire by at least once.

Ten or twenty times more than I have. If lucky, I will be living in a cardboard box over a nice warmish air grate on some city sidewalk.

^^. Get off my air grate!!!
