I don’t go to dating sites, so I might be wrong. With my friends, those who are “spiritual” usually believe in God but don’t attend any specific church or any church on a regular basis & seldom use the label “Christian”. Those who are “religious” usually attend a particular church on a regular basis & proudly call themselves “Christians”.

I think it means that if they are spiritual, they believe in a higher being, but they can’t really define what or who that higher being could be. If they say they are not spiritual or religious, I assume they are atheist.

Speaking for myself, if I was pushed to define my belief, I’d have to say that I think of the universe as my higher being. The universe is inclusive of nature and all that abounds therein. I consider myself spiritual. I lean toward believing in reincarnation until we learn what we (as individuals) need to learn – to be loving, to accept love, to be kind, to aspire to be a better human, to be humble, etc. We need to correct the flaws we currently have. Not minor ones like being messy, but major ones, like accepting and believing that one is loveable, or being nonjudgmental.

I’m definitely not religious. Imo, religion is an organized system created by humans…and specifically because it was done so long ago, by men.

I assume that someone who claims to be neither…is neither.

Big difference between spirituality and religious.
That’s like the difference between liking long walks on the beach at night and…..well you get it.

I consider myself, a very spiritual person. But certainly an atheist.
To me. Atheism just means that someone doesn’t believe in a god or gods (deities.)

I would put spirituality with how a person reacts with their environment.
Many, many people who don’t believe in a deity, struggle to find a way to explain their beliefs.

More often than not, if asked about religion, I can only check “other.” But. I have seen atheists and agnostics have to produce an answer, and come up with something similar to “neither spiritual or religious.” Usually because they are answering a multiple question, and have to select the closest thing to what they believe.

Some seem to think religious implies a continuing practice of worship with a group, but that isn’t accurate. If it was, we wouldn’t use the term “organized religion”,because it implies that there are religious persons who are not organized.
