I haven’t seen the remake yet, and based on your review, I won’t.

The first one was violent and repulsive, but it was a good film, story, realism, etc. Not sure how they could remake it credibly.

We just saw Dune part 2 and they showed a preview of Roadhouse before the film. My husband and I laughed in disbelief. Roadhouse is a film that shouldn’t be remade. I might watch it when it comes to streaming but I’m definitely not going to pay to see it in the theater.

Also just read Denzel Washington and Spike Lee are doing a remake of my favorite Kurosawa film, High and Low. Washington and Lee are both great talents but I have doubts.

We liked it, and we loved the original. The grand finale (tiger claw throat rip) in the first was hard to beat but this finale was pretty great.
The production was a bit over the top and I can’t stand Jake G, but Conor was fantastic.

The rest of the movie was like the first 3 minutes…violence on top of violence on top of violence. The violence in this one made the original look like a Sunday School picnic!!!

If I’m honest, I was GREATLY disappointed in the original as it was pretty violent in it’s own right. Then others kept talking about how great it was & I thought maybe I had missed something, so I tried it one more time. Being prepared for the violence made ALL the difference in the world. I managed to see the goodness in the storyline & found a way to tolerate it. Over the years, I came to actually enjoy it. I don’t foresee that happening with the remake. Prime allowed me to watch it for FREE & I still felt that I overpaid PLUS I wasted 2 hours 3 minutes of my life that I’ll NEVER get back!!!

Normally Amazon will charge $20–25 when a movie first crosses over & then drops the price to something reasonable about 2 weeks later. This one started off free, so there is NO place for it to drop unless they offer to pay you to watch it & I’d turn down that offer. . @jonsblond, it’s included with Prime for free. I didn’t see a price for those willing to pay for if that was an option. BTW…welcome back.

@MrGrimm888 Don’t waste your time revisiting this one. IMO they ripped off the name to get people to watch & they failed to deliver horribly!!! Jake was NO Patrick & Conor was mildly amusing when he wasn’t beating the shit out of people. @elbanditoroso Don’t waste your time with this one as there is NOTHING credible about it.

Liked the original, especially as a drinking game.

Won’t watch the remake on principle, but the “actors” are enough for me to skip it anyway.

I watched the new one last night and have seen the old one probably 10 times. I enjoyed it and really like the main actor, but it really was inferior it every way.

I saw it pop up on Peacock. I still have that because I had to subscribe to watch the Chiefs v Fins playoff game.

I really wasn’t sold on it, at all.
But I gave it a day, made sure I was in the best mood possible, and started watching.
I was watching the first fight scene, and I noticed one of the fighters looked familiar.
I paused and went back, and to my astonishment it was Post Malone.
I have no qualms with Malone.
However. It was clear he was not in “underground fightclub” shape, and could not believe the choreography. Close up “punches,” were CLEARLY CGI, as the hands at times don’t attach to the wrists occasionally.

Jake. I respect Jake. I really like most of his roles, and he even has actually put in the work to appear to be in fighting shape.
Although, again the director decided to try to paint him as dark and badass. Which just doesn’t fit JG. Not in this presentation.

Some could say that Swayze was not intimidating. That’s true.
That’s the realistic part. His character was defined by his actions, not his appearance.
Again, as a former bouncer, there are some realistic concepts in the original.
We do get stabbed, or cut, and usually just glue or stitch it with minimal care.
If you get a laceration on the clock because of an altercation, you can’t just leave. You may have more altercations that same night. You deal with injuries when the venue is closed.
Martial arts, especially the kicking, is not that realistic.
Exotic fighting styles are actually not very effective outside of an officiated, heavily dialed back event.
It’s mostly ducking/absorbing sucker punches, and grappling.

In reality. Places that can’t control their crowds, can’t stay open. They DO have to try to find some guys who can get nasty if needed.
When I worked for my former private security company, I was the main guy who took over new accounts. That means establishing a new relationship with a clientele. It’s usually a big problem, because I wouldn’t be there if the locals were civil.
So. At first, you are challenged by patrons who used to be able to show their ass. And unfortunately, that means physical confrontation.
Once I, and a team of my choosing would weed out the worst, then I would appoint one of my guys be the HOS moving forward.
Then, I’m on to the next spot to get that under control, and so on.
Violence is a part of the job.
At least reactive violence.
So. A film about that profession is likely to contain violence.

And just like the original, you have reoccurring problems with people who don’t want to go by the new rules. People wait for you by your vehicle at 3AM, if you threw them out somewhere.
You might get assaulted while on your personal time, by someone who remembers you.

I admittedly, did not watch 95% of the movie. But. It was like seeing a dead person. I had to look away, to preserve the memories of when things were better….

I’m glad some people enjoyed it.
I just couldn’t.

I’ve been trying to get myself in the mood to watch the new “White Men Can’t Jump,” but again, it doesn’t look promising.

^Original concepts, are risky.
If you really just want to make money, I think a star studded remake if a previously successful movie is a safer short term investment.

Some movies take decades to gather a fan base. That’s great, but the investment pays out much slower.

This remake, stood on the shoulders of the original.

I think if the same movie had a different title, it wouldn’t even had attracted the cast it has.
If this movie came out with lesser known stars, I don’t believe it would have the success it currently has.
Not that it’s loved. But some people like it.

I have to admit, I only watched it because of the original. I almost felt protective of the franchise.
I wanted it to be great.
I actually didn’t want it to be made at all. Especially with Swayze still a little warm.

I’ll probably watch Tyson fight J. Paul on Netflix. Because I LOVE Tyson.
Paul will acquire my audience, because of Mike.

Cinema is probably dying. It’s just not the profit engine it used to be, and the economics has shifted drastically, but our celebrities still demand big paychecks and the whole film industry has grown into such a hydra that even a shitty Sandler rom com costs 80 million dollars. So prices go up on everything, and the customer is squeezed in every way possible, including creatively. You will not pay for originality, so you do not get it. Not in the cinemas anyway, and steaming isn’t far behind on this trend. Hedge funds believe they have found the formula for making films profitable, and it is in celebrity cameos, nepo babies, product placement, reused material, inoffensive concepts, and member berries. Children’s movies for adults. Yay.

And I’ll avoid the Tyson fight because of how much I loathe Jake Paul. Tyson loses my interest because of his choice. Seeing that the movie is called “Roadhouse” I immediately knew it would be another shitty corporate suppository of a film, and I just don’t have the time to spend in a dark room with strangers, shoving things up my ass.
