@basp, I feel the same way about our home. We’re in the Metro DC area, so plenty to do. We have run out of rooms to renovate and add on. I joke that I now need a map to find the bathroom. I just don’t understand why, with the kids so young, we can’t do simple things like rent a cabin an hour away or go to the beach an hour and a half away or, heaven forbid, stay home and relax while doing day trips. Instead, we do RV trips through the west, trips to Jamaica, trips to Montana to see my family (even though they will be here for 5 months) My boys are 2 and 4, so they will soon be old enough to be more independent on vacations, but for now, it’s twice the hype for ten times the work, and I’m so frazzled and exhausted when we get home, I usually wind up getting sick. Hubby has a great time golfing, fishing, sleeping in, hiking, doing the tourist thing. I don’t get to do those things. The worst was spending 14 days stuck in a hotel room with a sick baby, no English speaking doctors, and hubby telling me we were keeping him up at night and he would be too tired to play golf. Phooey!
I keep threatening to take a long weekend just by myself. I don’t have to go far. I would be happy as a pig in shit to camp out in a cabin in the mountains for a long weekend. To be able to actually read a book, not get up 3 times a night, or sleep past 5 am would be heaven! One day, I’m handing the boys, including the 16 year old stepson who hates me, off to hubby and hitting the road for 3 whole days, all by myself.
