I just watched Fido today. I wasn’t expecting too much from it because… come on. It’s horror-comedy. And while horror and comedy are probably my favorite genres when done correctly, that’s a rare thing, and even more rare when combined. But this movie was actually pretty awesome. It was like Lassie/Leave It to Beaver with zombies! It’s the 1950s US, only there’s been a war against the zombies, which we won, and now there are collars that render them harmless and they work as servants. It’s actually surprisingly clever, I think. And the characters! Oh my god! There is complexity! There is development! They’re not just static stereotypes or zombie food! It isn’t really scary at all, and it’s not laugh-out-loud funny (except for one deleted scene) but I was thoroughly amused through the whole thing. Yeah, I definitely liked it a lot.
