Can anyone explain the etymological differences between antebellum, meaning pre-war, and cerebellum, meaning little brain?
both are latin, but the similarity is coincidence.
cerebellum is form the diminutive form of cerebrum, and means “little brain”.
antebellum is from ante which means “before” and bellum which means “war”.
Antediluvian, ante meridian, bellicose, cerebral, antelope; (Sam; we must use the same dictionary:-). There are many early languages that have streamed into modern English, plus the new stuff from IM, TM, etc.
