Does anyone know of a good, masculine messenger bag?

“Great Question” (0points)

I’m going to university in the fall, and I want something that isn’t too feminine or looks like a purse. I’m looking for something leather or canvas. I also really like “Indiana Jones-ish” kinds of bags. But there are so many bags that have a lot of clasps and zippers in the front, but it’s just too much. I prefer simple on the outside, and then open the flap and boom, it’s all organized lol.

why not just get a rucksack? would be manlier by default and also much better for your back and shoulders due to better weight distribution.

Mtl_zack's avatar

@ragingloli I really do like the look of those, but I prefer the easy access to the contents.

then maybe a combination of a rucksack and a hip pack?

okay I don’t even understand what a ‘masculine’ messenger bag is supposed to look like? take a picture when you get one

teh_kvlt_liberal's avatar

it’s not a purse! It’s European!

Facade's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir I’m assuming he means one that looks a little like a purse as possible.

Manhattan Portage makes awesome, durable and affordable bags. I don’t know how masculine they are, but they are awesome.

Man purses are rarely masculine, no matter how hard you try.

I dunno, I like Timbuk2. But Patagonia makes some nice ones too.

I dunno, I just find Timbuk2 and Patagonia bags almost completely indestructible, waterproof (which is huge for me), and can come pretty cheap if you look hard enough. But if they’re not your style than I don’t have much to recommend.

@Simone_De_Beauvoir a messenger bag with a penis on it? Or an XY sex chromosome?

You gotta go OG, son! as the kids might say.

Timbuk2 are really nice, as our Manhattan Portage. Check out eBags.com – i bought my last messenger from there, and they carry all those brands and others, too. (btw, I bought an Oxio).

If i remember correctly, you can select colors, styles, needs etc and they’ll recommend stuff for you.

No matter what it looks like, it will always be a man-purse. Just get used to it.

Mtl_zack's avatar

Dammit, they’re European! But yeah, @Facade understands what I mean. Something less feminine than everything else lol.

I really like my custom design of Timbuk2, but it’s too… artificial. I had a nylon Timberland, and it was always plastic and hard. I didn’t like it at all.

These are all great suggestions! Keep them coming!

DeanV's avatar

@Mtl_zack Hmm… I think Timbuk2s are really different than Timberlands because they’ll wear a little. I’ve had mine for about a year now and it’s already quite soft.

That may just be me used to it, though.

If you can dish out the cash, CC Filson makes some great bags. May want to try eBay for that, though.

Here’s a real manpurse…

Just get something that doesn’t have a seat belt buckle on it.

I have a Chrome messenger bag, and i actually ride a bike 20+ miles a day to get to school and around the city and back home. I wouldnt be able to live without it, it has lots of space and is comfortable to carry on my back.

You might want to browse eBags for laptop bags.

booqbags…I have recommended them several times here; I own 3 different ones, and am getting their new messenger bag when it is released on 8/10.

They have excellent build quality (I still have my first one after 5 years, not a single tear or popped seam)...the new messenger, like the others in their line, have many pockets and are designed for the tech geek, yet look very sleek and modern yet “hip.”

eponymoushipster's avatar

wouldn’t the most masculine messenger bag be shaped like a scrotum?

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

no matter what you call it, it is still a purse. Get a backpack and keep your testicles in your pants where they belong. =)

I’m been searching for the bag shown at the link below for years!

I don’t think they make it anymore… :(

I love this bag because of it’s size. I long for this one because it’s anything but subtle!

Get an armani leather messenger bag. Something that looks like this.
I got something similar with plain leather strap (no branding) but half the armani face logo subtly embossed on the right side of the flap.
Classy.
Also got it cheap since it was fake, about $30 in vietnam.
