How can I work with antiquated audio formats?

“Great Question” (0points)

I’m trying to work with a file from an old game (DOS era).

I’ve found that the audio in the game is stored in two file formats:
*.ibm
*.tan

Does anyone know of any software that could look at the data in the files? or do I need to look at de-compiling the old bytecode for the game?

Any info would be great

If you can play the audio somehow then you can use Audacity to record the output.

@theichibun That is what I was going to suggest. One down side is if you have a newer pc it may have the “Stereo Mix” disabled which means you would have to get a male-to-male jack to plug in to the sound card output and into the input or mic to get this method to work.

Although I haven’t tested anything, it seems that that can be taken care of rather easily.
