Who here thinks Adam Lambert's performance went over the line?

“Great Question” (2points)

So many people, like 87% said that he went over the line, because he kissed a person, and grabbed his crotch? Like Michael Jackson, Roseanne Barr, and Madonna. What is it that made people so mad, is it that he is gay? Also does anybody truly believe that the AMC didn’t know what was going to happen? You know that it is choreographed and pre-screened prior to broadcast.

My personal opinion, so what and he puts on great performances!

If people truly give a fuck, they have far too much time on their hands.

derekfnord's avatar

I couldn’t care less. The people getting all freaked out and throwing fits are just giving him free publicity. Same as with Elvis, same as it ever was…

justme1's avatar

Yea that is true. There seemed to be a lot of complaints on the website I saw earlier, pretty crazy

Jude's avatar

Honestly, I don’t give a flying fig.

jonsblond's avatar

Do I want my children watching someone pull another to his crotch to simulate oral sex during prime time television? No.

Does my family waste time watching stupid award shows?
No.

no harm done

avvooooooo's avatar

Its that he’s an idiot who can’t sing that well and is not that big of a deal, but he thinks he is and should be.

I don’t have a problem with him being gay, I have a problem with him being famous for negligible talent. Not unlike Paris Hilton.

rangerr's avatar

I don’t care that he’s gay.
I don’t care that he made out with a guy on stage.

I was a bit concerned that his performance was very sexual and there were kids watching, as it was on a main channel.

justme1's avatar

Are you kidding, he has unbelievable talent, and he puts on a great performance.

Why is it such a big deal, performers have done that kinda stuff forever it seems…..

Jude's avatar

I actually think that he has a decent voice and I don’t think that he is an idiot.

It was all a big publicity stunt, folks.

tacky? Sure.

Clair's avatar

I don’t even know what you’re talking about, and I sure don’t give a damn.
He kissed a guy I’m guessing? Don’t care. Just hope he was hot and it was worth it. (And that said kissee wore as much eye makeup as Adam..)

justme1's avatar

@clair, yea he kissed a guy and grabbed hit crotch, and people were like outraged. Seemed pretty crazy to me. Oh and yes he is hot lol

BBSDTfamily's avatar

It made me like him less… I thought it was very tasteless, where before I always thought he was a class act.

pinkparaluies's avatar

Yeah, way over the line. Especially putting a man’s face in his crotch.
tooooo much for me.

loser's avatar

More power!

avvooooooo's avatar

@justme1 He’s crap. He butchers every song he sings. He was ridiculous in Wicked. But then he’s ridiculous in general.

At least Madonna and others who did salacious things had talent to rely on.

justme1's avatar

He has a ton of talent and has one of the most unique awesome voices I have ever heard in my life! :-)

avvooooooo's avatar

@justme1 Yeah, whatever. I would imagine your experience with music is rather limited if you think that shit’s good.

avvooooooo's avatar

American Idol’s been churning out a lot of crap singers lately.

jonsblond's avatar

@avvooooooo Kris Allen has talent. He can sing and play an instrument. He also won.

ragingloli's avatar

i didn’t even know that he existed until all the ridiculous outrage occured.

Clair's avatar

Can someone post a link? I’m not finding anything of relevance.

Supacase's avatar

I wonder how many of his supporters would feel the same if he groped a woman and pushed her face into his crotch. Something tells me there would be outrage and cries of promoting sexual abuse toward women – or something like that. The fact that it was another man makes it no better.

NewZen's avatar

Show me a link please?

Clair's avatar

Wow, I forgot how much I hate him as an artist. I didn’t see the crotch grabbing or face/crotch hit…? But I saw the kiss and…. It wasnt’ inappropriate. He’s a ‘rockstar,’ remember? PFFT. It wouldn’t be inappropriate if Mick Jagger kissed a woman like that.

NewZen's avatar

Thanks @aprilsimnel – Actually I do have a problem with it: Adam was amazing on AI and I think he is the entertainer of the future and the one to watch – a combination of everything good in Freddie, Billy Idol and a little Bowie. He could front Queen, he could lead a broadway musical – he’s the definition of a triple threat. Having said that – the song sucks. That’s my beef.

Madona kissing britney, MJ grabbing his crotch, like, always, and not to mention the other theatricalities of Freddie Mercury – oh – some 30 years ago – this is TAME – but the song sucks. Adam: please get some good material to suit your amazing gift of a voice.

ZEN out.

avvooooooo's avatar

I forgot tasteless in the list of reasons why nobody should pay attention to this idiot. Both in actions and clothing.

absalom's avatar

Well I don’t know who Adam Lambert is so I can’t really say.

tinyfaery's avatar

He should have saved it for the VMAs. I think it was a bit much for the intended audience. But hey Madonna has dome some crazy shit, and Prince showed his entire ass one year (at some awards show). I was a bit flabbergasted, but I like him.

justme1's avatar

I love everything about him from from his hair to his voice to his make-up, to the way he dances and performs. He is an all around awesome performer!

@Supacase If he acted that way to a woman as long as she wasn’t upset which I know I wouldn’t be, then I would feel the same way.

figbash's avatar

I wasn’t terribly shocked by the kiss and it was clearly staged, but I thought that rubbing some guy’s face is his crotch went a little over the line of taste and appropriateness for television.

Buttonstc's avatar

All of the simulated sex stuff in that performance would have been fine if he were performing at a fetish club or some gay bars.

I just think his choice of venue was poorly chosen. His immaturity is showing.

However, I do think he is a talented artist and would most likely have won AI had it not been for all the judgmental voters who were swayed by the gay rumors.

It wasn’t until afterwards that he chose to come out on the record so initially they were just rumors. ( those of us with well-developed gaydar didn’t need to be formally told) but we weren’t the ones voting against him.

The more clueless among the populace just allowed themselves to be swayed by rumor and inuendo.

America still has a long way to go regarding fair treatment for anyone GLBT.

However, the poor judgment he exhibited in this last performance certainly didn’t help toward more acceptance of gays.

Whether someone is gay or straight of trans should be irrelevant as regards their musical talent. But a performance like that just needlessly inflames the issue.

derekfnord's avatar

@avvooooooo Respectfully, I think you’re out of your mind… ;-) Lambert is an AMAZING singer. @NewZen mentioned he could front for Queen. I agree, and he’s the only person I’ve ever been willing to say that about. He’s the first (and thus far only) person I think could step into Freddie Mercury’s shoes.

Not your style? Fine. Don’t like him? Your choice. But crap singer? You must be deaf… ;-)

gemiwing's avatar

First off, I care more about my cat’s digestion than I care about Adam Lambert. Second- I think many artists are out of line doing that kind of thing at an awards show. A concert? Fine, doesn’t bother me.

It’s tacky. Wow, you can have sex- amazing, me too! Its just so boring to me. This falls into the ‘Just because you can doesn’t mean you should’ catagory.

reacting_acid's avatar

His hair scared me.

“It’s choreography, we were dancing. The sexuality of it kind of got a little more extreme when I got up on stage. I think the adrenaline kind of took me over, and I admit it, and i’m proud of the fact that I did get a little carried away. It’s just the fact that I’m me and it’s a little different for people. It’s really not that big of a deal. I’m not a babysitter, I’m a performer.”—Lambert

avvooooooo's avatar

@derekfnord The only way I’ll go deaf is if I listen to him for several hours straight. That or absolutely nuts. But I am neither at this point.

avvooooooo's avatar

Oh… Just realized that if people like his music enough to listen to it often they are both deaf and nuts. Driven there by that crap.

Maneman's avatar

I have no idea what this is about but sounds as though he’s kicked up a storm! May have to give it a little google time and see for myself!

Supacase's avatar

@justme1 I agree with you in that I wouldn’t be upset if the woman wasn’t, but I think some groups would be very vocal about the message they felt it sent – probably to children, especially considering the venue. Our society is very sensitive about any real or perceived violence or degradation of women by men. I feel like if they are concerned about that, they should be equally concerned about same sex abuse as well.

justme1's avatar

@Supacase Yes I was just answering the question. People are just way too prude I think

tinyfaery's avatar

Abuse? It was a performance.

justme1's avatar

@tinyfaery who called it abuse?

sjmc1989's avatar

I think he came of looking like a douchebag, he squealed to much for my liking, if the guy didn’t care that he got a crotch rubbed all in his face why should I? thank god it wasn’t me, and personally I hope I don’t have to watch or see him again.
