As a personal metal head, I must say metal has come a long way and even though it’s not as mainstream as hip hop or pop it is more popular today then it was when I started listening to it. As a musician I’d also say that Metal/rock is getting more intricate while quite the opposite is happening with pop. I swear just tonight alone on the radio station they play at work (kind of a poppy one) I heard the same drum beat for most of the songs. I don’t think pop really appeals to adults as it used to.
Country on the other hand I think is becoming more poppy, which I don’t think is a good thing. Never really been a fan and quite despise country music all together, but being the musician I am I can see talent in some artists, but for the most part I don’t think it sounds much different from the rest. Old country was unique and quite different than it is today, in which if I did like country music it would probably be older stuff.
Oh yea and what happen to straight up gangsta rap? Lol, all rappers talk about now’a’days is get’n some hot booty back to their place to poor money and rims all over them. What happen to hard times in the ghetto? Making a fight just to make it through the day? I want some uplifting shit! lol
Metal though, speaking as a musician is gotten quite amazing. It takes a lot of talent to play what today’s metal bands play.
~Edit~ I also looooooove blues! To play it, listen to it. Blues is almost the only music that hasn’t changed. It’s sad happy and emotionally driven to the soul and I love soaking it in and dishing it out.
