I rolled a car once. It was an amazing experience (thirty years ago this month). I had fallen asleep at the wheel at 2 AM on an Interstate in Georgia. I drifted left into the median grass, and the roughness woke me up. But I reacted too quickly, spun the wheel too hard to the right, and started doing a donut on the slick grass. I spun back across my original travel lanes, and headed 180° wrong, rolled into a 12’ ditch on my original side of the road. The car rolled 360°, so I landed on my wheels and experienced pieces of the smashed windshield raining into my lap. I recall that whole experience as if it took longer to occur than to write about, but it all happened in seconds.
Fortunately I just opened the door and walked uninjured out of the car and up the ditch… to where the trucker who had been following me about a mile away was just pulling up to stop and see if I had even survived. I have been such a lucky boy sometimes.
