Do you believe what is said by your horoscope?

“Great Question” (3points)

I have been lightly reading my friends, family and my own horoscope lately. I find it describes myself very closely and now I am not sure whether this is just a coincidance, whether I am searching for the traits that is desribed by it while reading thus agreeing, or could this be a common inherent trait that every person born under the certain star will exhibit? It sounds true also when i read about horoscope compatibility.

But i do not agree with what’s being said on the daily horoscope description on the newspaper or on the internet.

What do you think? I think the best way to approach this is to jot down ur characteristics or at least have a think about it before reading your horoscope then you will know better whether it is true or not.

I find that if one does not give me the answer I want, I move on to the next. Eventually I find one that works for me.

Long story short. No.

Snarp's avatar

No. Horoscopes are written in such a way that anyone can find them accurate. The position of the stars at your birth have no impact on your personality.

No,but I do believe in bullshit!

mattbrowne's avatar

It’s a coincidence.

The only horoscope I pay attention to is this one. Risa knows her stuff and more often than not, her analysis of cosmic goings-on is quite accurate. All other horoscopes are written in the most general sense and I find they are rarely accurate.

Whatever you imagine will be your truth.

What you find in the newspaper and on the Internet are horoscopes based on where the sun is at your time of birth. For the most part, sun sign astrology is bunk.

Having said that let me explain that in astrology there are 10 “planets” that affect you. They all have a place in your chart at the time of your birth, and they all affect you according to that placement.

At the time of your birth, there is one astrological sign rising on the horizon. That is called your rising sign. It is often more accurate to read the horoscope for this sign than for your sun sign. I find this to be particularly true for myself and for many others.

To get your rising sign, you not only need your birthday and place, but you also need your time of birth as exact as possible. Some places list the birth time on the birth certificate, but if it’s not there you can get it by writing to the hospital where you were born. Then you can use the information of many dozen’s of online sites to obtain your own birth chart showing the placement of the houses, signs, and planets.

Enjoy. It’s fun to study.

Adding to the above question, why is there so many links on the internet that tells the same characteristic of a person under the same star? It is just a copy paste thing thoughout this horoscope thing either for attention or commercial purpose or probably there’s something more to it (generally)?

DominicX's avatar

Nope.

I do not believe astrology has any bearing on the human mind. There is no evidence for it.

Horoscopes are written in such a way that they can apply to almost anyone, or at least apply to 7 out of 10 people, so that there’s a fairly large chance that it will apply to you. Secondly, one must not forget about the confirmation bias. People who claim the “horoscope is always accurate!” are probably only focusing on the times it was accurate and are neglecting all the times it wasn’t.

Additionally, if you want it to be accurate, then you’ll find a way to make it accurate. You’ll read it and twist it around (even without knowingly doing it) to make it fit something about you, even if it’s really a stretch and not that accurate.

It is fun to look at some times, but I do not attach any real significance to it and I would never choose a partner based on it. According to the zodiac, my parents are supposed to be almost completely incompatible, yet they’ve been happily married for over 24 years.

I dont’t take it to heart i notice the connections, but im the one who made me, ME., not my horoscope. Just my opinion though

I don’t put any weight behind horoscopes.
1) All the different horoscope places tell different things. My ‘scope today from horoscope.com as a libra speaks of starting a project and seizing opportunities. My ‘scope from astrology-online.com speaks of getting support. On findyourfate.com, it talks about thinking about my day (either the one that just ended, or the one that’s just beginning). astrolis.com tells me that I’ll be too busy thinking about love to get anything done.

2) If you look at previous horoscopes for the first time, chances are, they aren’t accurate reflections of what happened. Yesterday’s Libra horoscope from horoscope.com is all about being with my romantic interest. That’s not something that happened.

3) They are so very vague. Just as personality predictions are in general for your astrological sign. They pick very broad ideas that fit many different lifestyle choices. Until I see my horoscope tell me “you will win the lotto today”, I’ll be a bit skeptic.

However
(Oh how I love to post something with a “however”!)
Horoscopes can be great inspirational pieces. You may read one and think to yourself, “That’s a great idea” and intentionally go out and do what it suggests.

Here’s a question to ask yourself: Is it nature, nurture, or the position of the celestial objects at our birth that determines our personality? How can we go about answering the question? Wait until you get old enough to think you are turning into your parents, then look at their astrological signs and yours. I happen to be very much like my father in personality, but with a touch of my mother thrown in. Yet my mother is a cancer and my father is a virgo and I’m a taurus. All of the descriptions of us given by astrology would differ in many ways. But am I really different from my parents in those ways? No, not in the least. That strongly suggests that I am the product of nature and/or nurture, but not of the position of the stars. That’s anecdotal of course, and in science anecdotes are the beginning, not the end of research. Fortunately, however, I think that a review of the psychological literature would bear out the notion that there is strong evidence for nature, strong evidence for nurture, and absolutely zero scientific evidence for astrology.

I deliberately do not read them just in case I believe them and get myself all worked up and worried about something that may or may not come true.
