If it sticks up above sea level, then it’s called “an island”. If it’s below sea level but in a depth of water that means it can be struck by floating vessels, then it’s called “a rock”.
Normally, I suppose it would be a—something else that you’re probably supposed to look up on your own.
@CyanoticWasp There are mountains underwater, in fact the longest mountain range in the world is underwater. Just like there are underwater volcanoes, and valleys; i.e. Trenches
I’ve always heard single mountains referred to as simply underwater mountains. However, if it is an entire underwater mountain range, then it might be referred to as a Mid-ocean ridge.
@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities wouldn’t it also have to be in the middle, in that case? You seem to be adding conditions or specification that the OP never intended.
@CyanoticWasp I would assume that yes, it would have to be located in the middle of the ocean. I’m just throwing out possibilities here, the OP wasn’t that specific.
And I think I’m being significantly more helpful than all the – Moby/Rosie O’Donnell talk.
@CyanoticWasp – yes, I think so too – but people aren’t saying “she’s so boring she lives under the ocean”, they’re saying “she’s as big as a mountain”.
