It’s probably no safer to live there now than it was last week. Tectonic plates shift around, that’s what happens. The Pacific Northwest is always one shift away from volcanic eruptions right outside of Portland, Seattle and Vancouver. But people still live here because every place is dangerous. Millions of people live in Naples, right beneath Mt. Vesuvius. Millions live in LA, but they have earthquakes pretty frequently.
Look at the midwest: lots of people live along the Mississippi, which floods every few years. You take what you get, but no human ingenuity will ever complete negate the possibility of natural danger.
