What's the first thing that comes to mind when I say "Sherlock Holmes"?

“Great Question” (1points)

I am playing the role of Sherlock Holmes in a community theater production, and I’m just curious what preconceived notions or immediate thoughts there are of him.

a character 100% the opposite of the character in that movie of the same name that came out recently.

Slow, intellectual, NON-action based, wearing a hat, smoking a pipe. Analytical.

Total ambivalence about breaking the law.

Cocaine.

Master of disguise!

Did I mention total ambivalence about the law? Not only not caring about breaking it, but not intent on bringing evil doers to justice either.

Super observant.

Trusted by royalty. Discrete.

I’ve been reading him lately. My favorite part thus far has been when he’s like, “Hey, Watson, I need your help to break the law rather a lot and also, you should bring your gun.”

221 B Baker street.

While in boarding school in Ireland we read “Hound of the Baskervilles” and as an assignment wrote a letter to Sherlock Holmes at his famous residence. It turns out the address exists and I got a letter back. It was awesome.

@MrItty

The film definitely portrays him differently than the typical characterization. But after reading the wikipedia article about the character and after talking to my Dad, who has read several of the short stories, it seems like the movie might be quite accurate. In the original works, Holmes was depicted as untidy, a loner, someone with little regard for social norms, a drug user, etc.

first thing i think about is this old (Disney?) movie where Sherlock Holmes is a mouse – The Great Mouse Detective

My son is a student of Sherlock Holmes’ stories and feels that the Robert Downey portrayal is a travesty.

Deerstalker cap, definitely.

Basset Hounds and pipes. I realize that the hound in The Hound of the Baskerville’s was not actually Basset Hounds, but this is what I thought of when I was little and heard the story.

Basil Rathbone, in character.

No apostrophe in Baskervilles.

Frankly my dear Watson, I don’t give a damn.

@Bluefreedom I don’t know how to make a poking out your tongue sign, but I would if I could

@Captain_Fantasy did you read Gone with the Wind before or after Sherlock Holmes?

@Jeruba No apostrophe in Baskerville’s? OK, Baskervilles it shall be, just for you…

Jeremy Brett. He captured the essence of Holmes—the arrogance, aloofness, and the violin playing habit.
