While in boarding school in Ireland we read “Hound of the Baskervilles” and as an assignment wrote a letter to Sherlock Holmes at his famous residence. It turns out the address exists and I got a letter back. It was awesome.

The film definitely portrays him differently than the typical characterization. But after reading the wikipedia article about the character and after talking to my Dad, who has read several of the short stories, it seems like the movie might be quite accurate. In the original works, Holmes was depicted as untidy, a loner, someone with little regard for social norms, a drug user, etc.
