Is there anything we won't personify?

“Great Question” (5points)

I just watched a commercial where they had a mop dreaming about a woman using another mop.

There’s also the infamous Mr. Hankey.

A penis. (oh wait)

Probably not. There’s a Japanese cartoon character that is a piece of poop. Another that’s a slice of bread. Another that’s a pancake… There’s Sponge Bob… I seem to recall personified wounds…

No there really isn’t. Conversely we seem more willing to relate to inanimate objects than we do to each other.

It’s the other side of verbing nouns; we personify them, too.

We personify objects. We objectify people.

It’s broken.

Do you ever see faces in objects? Theres that one commercial that nailed that one.

I stopped being shocked when they personified mucous.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

OH! @tinyfaery did you just take us there?

Trillian's avatar

@tinyfaery I’m still not over that. The mucous es wear clothes, and accessories. They have familial relationships.
The talking veggies bother me too for some reason. Why don’t they spoil? What do they eat? I can’t let myself think about stuff like this.

I personify numbers and letters.
1 is unamused. 2 is vaguely alarmed. 7 has attitude problems. And so on.

RocketSquid's avatar

@Nullo 7 ate 9, and you only say “Attitude problems?”

You were expecting this and you god damned know it.

Nullo's avatar

@Trillian The talking vegetables in Veggie Tales are omnivores, AFAIK – particularly the Gourds, which on one occasion ate popcorn and furniture. In one of his Silly Songs, Larry the Cucumber refers to the practice of throwing spaghetti on the wall to see if it’s cooked. There are likely other references.
The idea there is that pasta that has boiled long enough has enough starch coating it that it will stick to things.

@RocketSquid Actually, I hadn’t considered the 789 thing until you brought it up. But it does illustrate the extent of 7’s…issues. Thank you.

@Nullo I know about the pasta thing, I lived in Italy for three years. I can make some awesome Italian food now as a consequence!

@Trillian Where at?
This conversation sound suspiciously familiar…

Trillian's avatar

@Nullo Naples.

Nullo's avatar

@Trillian Ah. Nice place, as I recall. Excellent cuisine!
