I’ve been working with various laptops for up to 16 hours a day (and leaving them mostly “on” for 24 hours a day, most of the time) for over ten years, and I’ve never ever had the insides “cleaned”.

The CPU doesn’t need it, unless you’re in a particularly dusty area (or have to deal with a lot of lint or pet hair being pulled into the vents, for example), and hard drives flat do not need to be “cleaned”: they’re sealed.

I’m with @Tropical_Willie: don’t do it.

If you want to ‘clean’ it, just get a can of compressed air (or if you have an air compressor turn down the psi output really low [around 30 psi is what I usually use]) and blow dirt out from under the keyboard, and blow off the heat sink. Don’t bother opening it up, as others mentioned you’ll usually void the warranty.

I just opened my 6-year old laptop, to replace a faulty video cable. I was pleasantly surprised how clean it was inside.

When I open my tower PC, which sits on the floor and sucks in dust, it looks like a cat sleeps inside.

@justn Beat me to it. Break out a can of compressed air and shoot some into all the vents and into the keyboard.

btw, don’t buy a bunch of cans and have an air-fight with your buddies, please; the fumes can be toxic.

Yea I’ve had to clean my fan out with a can of compressed air before because my laptop was over heating
