Orbs tobacco candy: Does anyone think this is a reasonable product to market?

“Great Question” (0points)

I thought flavored cigarettes and snuff products were reprehensible enough for even the most jaded tobaco company. But now Camel is test marketing these in Portland Oregon and two other cities in the U.S.

It’s basically ground-up tobacco, mint or cinnamon flavored, in a candy coated shell. Melts in your mouth, not in your lungs! And isn’t it an odd coincidence how much the pellets and the packaging look like TicTacs?

I’m just glad tobacco companies aren’t marketing their products toward children.

What difference does it make it ? I always thought people hated cigarette companies and their products because of second hand smoke and the smell ! Most people act as if tobacco is Cyanide,,,,all you need is a whiff and you’ll have permanent damage !
Maybe they need to market it as suppositories !!!

RedPowerLady's avatar

That is disgusting and I’m ashamed to live a stone’s throw from Portland. Why are they marketing tobacco as a candy product? Didn’t they already get in trouble for advertising using characters that were targeted toward children?

@Pretty_Lilly Tobacco is dangerous in any recreational form. The smoke is very dangerous yes but in oral form like Copenhagen it causes cancer of the mouth. I’ve had family pass from tobacco. It is very dangerous. it is worse than cyanide b/c cyanide is known as a poison and tobacco is known for recreation.

@RedPowerLady is correct. Nicotine gums and patches are not cancer causing, the side effects and complications are related to the nicotine only. But this is a tobacco product, sparing only the lungs. and your family and pets.

@RedPowerLady I agree with you ! Tobacco should be completely outlawed ! We should institute a totalitarian regime !
After Tobacco, we should go after all fast food ! as it kills ten fold more people than Tobacco once we accomplish that we can start putting an end to all fat people followed by the old !

*If people enjoy using Tobacco products !!! mind your own business,,,,Live and Let Live !

@Pretty_Lilly I am saying that anything with such severe side effects should not be marketed in a way that makes it appealing to children. Simple as that. I’m not saying tobacco should be outlawed although personally I would love for it be illegal to use it in public.

RJ Reynolds says they’re marketing this to meet the needs of cigarette smokers who are increasingly banned from lighting up in public. But they could do that without making candy. Look at the logo, it’s even shaped like a mirror image of the TicTc one.

Pediatric experts estimate that eight of these would be enough to kill a one year old child.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@MagsRags That is even more scary! They look like candy and they are deadly. I wouldn’t mind having an alternative to lightening up so long as it wasn’t something kids wouldn’t immediately go for. There is no question that this is something that kids would “enjoy”.

I dont understand the point of it….
I thought the whole allure of smoking was the uhhh smoking part…. thats what it is for me at least

why wouldnt you just get actual tic tacs that are much cheaper…..

lilikoi's avatar

I don’t care, and it is quite a stretch to tic-tacs to me, but nice try.

@lilikoi quite a stretch to you, sure. What about a 5 year old?
