That newer stuff is more what it takes to get in at competitive AAA studios, but there are better people than me too, so it’s not a guarantee.
In general just know that studios are trying to hire people who are going to make them look good! If your work isn’t as good as the professional work you see in stores it will be hard to get hired, but if your persistent you can usually get your foot in the door someplace small and work on your portfolio from there.
(oh and I’m not an animator primarily I do modeling and textures, but you can still get a sense of it. For animators you need an animation reel in place of still images)
