Usually when you are not aware of it. Sadly. But I do believe it is true.
My husband and I were rear-ended on the freeway. The traffic stopped, but the person behind us didn’t. Both of us had messed up necks and backs, which required months of chiropractic treatment and therapeutic massage. Dollars out the door.
Her insurance company offered us a paltry sum to settle. We went to court thinking it was a slam dunk. The insurance company had a vicious bulldog attorney. We had hired a nice guy attorney. Long story short, the jury was directed to find in our favor (or I don’t think they would have!), but awarded us almost no money. What there was barely covered the attorney.
Some months after this ordeal, her house was all over the news. During a windstorm, two giant evergreens fell on it and demolished her kitchen.
My comment? May you have the same homeowner’s insurance as you do car insurance.
