During infomercials are you ever convinced you need the product?

Just for Fun…. Which infomercial items do think might be as awesome as they look? Have you acted on this? Have you actually bought any of these items? Are any of them actually awesome?

For years I watched the Bare Minerals infomercial before it was in stores and yet still have not purchased it. My current infomercial desire is the 6 week body makeover. What are your infomercial desires?

On QVC my mom has bought some scrap book kits. They worked pretty good but the blades on the cutting boards never work like they show on tv.. And my aunt used to always buy ring on QVC before she passed away. And the rings were almost always top quality and lasted.

Yes, and for some magical reason, if they are on after midnight, they seem to be a must-have. The only items I’ve have purchased was some lipstick thing that guaranteed it would stay on for many hours. The lipstick is applied, then a clear gloss that is spread on like nail polish. It was an utter mess. Lesson learned.

Infomercials convince me I have been watching TV way too late and it’s time to go to bed.

gypsywench's avatar

Nope… I don’t watch infomercials anyways. I was channel surfing one day and I caught a glimpse of Mr. T on one. I’m sure Mr. T can be very convincing.

Ahh…that’s what I’ve been doing wrong- I stay up way too late!

Plus the TV is usually on when I sleep so I think they seep into my unconscious.

Never.

Infomercials only convince me to change the channel.
I consider them TV spam.

The workout ones tend to suck me in (Six week body makeover, P90X, and Insanity Workout: 60 Day Total-Body Conditioning Program) but I haven’t caved and bought one yet. I’ve been thinking more and more about getting the P90X though because I know several people that are using it and feel really good about it.

I watched a info actually the morning before last. It was Valerie Bertinelli and Cindy Crawford selling some creams to make you look younger. I guess she is married ,Cindy Crawford, to a famous dermatologist. Well I was thinking about buying the stuff. Who does not want to look like Cindy Crawford?! I can’t remember the name of the stuff though. I must of been sleepy.

Yesterday night i saw the amazing Ahh Bra (“Discover comfort, discover great looks. AHH BRA’s breakthrough “Body Form” technology does away with wires, hooks, and adjusting straps. AHH Bra instantly transforms your appearance. You look great, no more bra lines, no more bulges. Just a great and comfortable look.”)
If only i were a girl, i would have been tempted.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

@Frenchfry Don’t bother buying it. If there were any product sold on an infomercial that lived up to the hype, everyone would know about it. Besides, you are beautiful just as you are.

Frenchfry's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer You really have made my night. Thanks!

I love those things. I want the Werx GT or whatever that edger is called Worx, and the bracelets for energy. I bought a steamer that I love, too, but its Bissell , not the brand advertised on infomercials.
I am a sucker for infomercials but I do not watch them late. Either they are being auto programmed into my dvr or they’re on early. I never seek them out but if one is on I can become captivated. My dvr is recording shows I don’t like; I can’t figure this out.

Ginsu knives. Those suckers cut through metal and can slice a tomato right after, how could anyone resist that! Granted, never actually bought them, but they look convincing.

JLeslie's avatar

Nope. I am almost never compelled to buy anything on an infomercial.

we got a DVD subscription to “The Midnight Special” from an infomercial. I don’t regret it.

YARNLADY's avatar

Not really. I was looking for a couch table and I found one at the Pharmacy in the section called “As seen on TV” which was exactly what I needed, but I didn’t see it on TV.

Frenchfry's avatar

@YARNLADY ooooooo Now I want one.

I own every Ronco product manufactured so far, ”...but wait, there’s more!”

Austinlad's avatar

Always!

But I’ve learned never to dial the 1–800 number or go the Web page. Overnight, I forget how much I needed the silly product.

woodcutter's avatar

@ratboy…set it and….....

Infomercials are a joke, but the ShamWoW! guy has my number.

I did try Oxyclean and it does, in fact, seem to be an excellent product. I tried it on the recommendation of someone else in a laundromat, not because of the Billy Mays infomercial.

No, i don’t think an infomercial has ever convinced me that i need it. Sometimes they seem to be cool gadgets to get, but not something that would be necessary. I’ve tried an infomercial item before (some thing that was supposed to cut off only your split ends but leave your other hairs intact – it didn’t cut off all the split ends, stupid thing).
I have seen things through other mediums though where i’ve convinced myself that i need it. :)
Oh, wait! I’ve bought a scrapbook kit through an infomercial. That was alright, it got me off to a good start, so it helped.
