What do you think of the uniforms for the US Olympics team at the Opening Ceremonies?

“Great Question” (2points)

I have gone from finding them loathsome, to finding them somewhat appealing, to actually thinking they’re kind of awesome. Having been all over the map on them myself, I wondered what other Jellies might be thinking of the outfits. Here’s a link, in case you haven’t seen them:

They’re a little busy for my taste. Not terrible, just too much design on the jacket and the pants should have been a solid shade, no writing.

I like them. Yes, they’re pretty busy, but when you get to that level they should say look at me. As for the security issues I’m not so sure.

Way too busy; if I were prone to migraines, they would trigger one.

I like them. I assume there is a whole assortment of Olympic Garb available?

They’re very 1982.

The two women (3rd from right/2nd from left) look like rejects from a Bieber concert, manic smiles & brain cell deficient.
As for the uniforms, those jackets just scream winter olympian

A bit klunky and old-fashioned for my taste.

The designer should be shot.

Were they going for kitsch?

That’s the Team GB kit, we’ll win fuck all medals, but they’ll at least look cool while losing.

The hats are pretty dorky…at least they are made in America this time.

@ucme Looking good.

One thing that bothers me is how prominently Ralph Lauren has his own logos/corporate ID displayed on each piece. I feel like he could have toned down the self promotion in this instance, just a little.

I do like that every piece of every garment was made in the USA, with American materials. This after RL took quite a shellacking at the last Olympics for outsourcing all of our stuff to the Chinese. Talk about a major faux pas! Maybe this year’s uniforms are over-compensating? It reminds me of something our grandmothers would knit or quilt.

But I think that Americana homespun, yes kitsch is a good word for it, is kinda cool and folksy, and very…American.

In other news, German athletes will go to the games covered in Swastikas.

Why are they using a 48 star flag? That was replaced in 1959.

ucme's avatar

@JLeslie Yeah, not too bad, but the girl on the left appears to have lost her ski poles.
The girl on the right is hot, just saying.

ragingloli's avatar

but, in your defence, the German uniform is even worse: http://cdn2.spiegel.de/images/image-551665-galleryV9-jhjs.jpg

@LuckyGuy It’s hard for me to see the flag. It doesn’t look like 48, it looks more like 12 stars.

Edit: oh, you mean the flag in the background. Why did they use that flag? Strange. I guess maybe Alaska and Hawaii are excluded this olympics.

Here’s a comment from a Washington Post Reader;

“I actually found a naked spot on the jacket. Maybe they could sew on the lonesome star of Texas or the gold ‘C’ from the Colorado flag….”

And some more, starting with the Czechs When Canada came on the screen, someone suggested you turn down your contrast.

I agree that the Polo By Ralph Lauren logo is obnoxious on Team USA’s uniforms.

Here are the Swiss Uniforms for Sochi

I think the more retro and colorful and busy they are the better my team is gonna look and represent and be visible in the Opening Ceremonies. USA 2014!!!

They’re ok. I mean, it’s supposed to be a “stand out” occasion… I reckon. Still, it’s a wee bit over the top.
