@Coloma Now we’re talking. The only time I thought red velvet cake was interesting was the first time I saw it in the movie Steel Magnolias. Since then I have tasted it, and it tastes like nothing.
My mom a few years ago was talking about how she was going to her neighbors for a party for the son’s graduation. My mom complained to me in her very Bronx accent that, “the kids favorite cake is red velvet so that is what they are having. JL, red velvet isn’t chocolate.” I said, “I know Ma, it’s red velvet.” She said, “there is cocoa in it, but not enough.” Me, “I know, if you want chocolate cake you will have to go get you some.” I think she is very confused by red velvet cake. LOL.
You have to understand, she used to make for me from scratch chocolate chocolate cake for my birthdays. I always wanted those nice rectangular sheet cakes with the white icing and flowers on top with the pretty writing that says happy birthday like my friends. Now, in retrospect, I appreciate the effort she made making me a cake, and as an adult I would much prefer the chocolate cake.
