What is your opinion on this anatomically correct doll?

BABY BOY DOLL CONTROVERSY: Toys “R” Us raised some eyebrows recently with the release of its male baby doll.

The doll is equipped with a small and anatomically accurate genitalia. Some shoppers, though, claim the doll is inappropriate and unnecessary for children. What do you think?

Haters gonna hate.

Baby boys have little petzels – big news to some apparently!

Offended arseholes on social media, now there’s a thing.

How about if the people who don’t like it don’t buy it while allowing everyone else to make their own decisions?

Crazy idea, I know.

Any new thing introduced by anyone, anywhere for any purpose is going to upset someone for some reason or another. That’s not news. It’s also not news that a “news outlet” will attempt to mine those people for their “outrage” and “feedback” and “concern” in order to generate “controversy” where none would have existed without that cultivation.

Really, why feed the trolls, here or on television?

gailcalled's avatar

They should only be given to anatomically correct little boys and girls.

hominid's avatar

My kids have had anatomically correct dolls since 2004.

Back in the 1970’s, the TV show All In The Family introduced Joey, the grandson of Archie Bunker.
Soon, the producers had Joey dolls, which were anatomically correct, in the stores. You can still find them on eBay.

This discussion is actually almost 40 years old. Whadaya know, baby boys had penises then and they still have them now!

Adults are stupid.

Actually the protesters are contributing to the emasculation (or perhaps the feminization) of America. By refusing to acknowledge that boys/men have genitalia, they are actually saying that all humans are women – they are denying boys their own identity.

Besides, every 2 year old boy already knows he has a penis – he’s learning to go potty. Why would a parent want to teach anything else?

I think the protestors are just plain nuts….and they are teaching the wrong thing…

I’m still wondering how they injection mold the protuberance without voids or short shots in the low resin PVC or polyethylene. There’s more to it than meets the eye.

elbanditoroso's avatar

@LuckyGuy – that’s what I told my girlfriend, too.

Mmmmmm.

Delicious double standards.

This isn’t new. I had this doll (the one in the OP) when I was a child, about 25 years ago. I don’t have a problem with it and would let my children have it if they wanted it.

@elbanditoroso “By refusing to acknowledge that boys/men have genitalia, they are actually saying that all humans are women—they are denying boys their own identity.”

Maybe this is news to you, but women have genitalia, too. They’re not just blank down there. Barbie is missing just as much as Ken.

Also, genitals ≠ identity.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@elbanditoroso They say the most important sex organ is between the ears. Good luck with that explanation.

My opinions are: do they have a female correct doll too? If not, why not? The second opinion, which is weird, is I dislike the idea of a company making a fortune just because a group of people decided to make this doll anatomically correct. They didn’t make it for moral or religious purposes or even so little girls could play dolls. (do they still do that)? They made it , while laughing about it, to rake in the cash. I don’t appreciate their motives or sense of humor. It isn’t funny. It just is.

anniereborn's avatar

I had the original penis doll in the late 70s as well. In fact I still have him. I wouldn’t say that I’m NOT warped. However, I don’t think it has anything to do with that doll.

Coloma's avatar

I think the issue is more about the wetting his diaper when he cries.
Who decided to synch up those two functions?
Sooo..forget the penis ( old news ) and ask WHY it is assumed that emotions make us wet ourselves? lol

anniereborn's avatar

Is he wetting his diaper becuz he’s crying, or is he crying becuz he wet his diaper?

janbb's avatar

@anniereborn Yes, I assumed the second.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Neither. It isn’t a real baby!

SavoirFaire's avatar

@Dutchess_III You are technically correct. The best kind of correct.

hominid's avatar

@hominid: “My kids have had anatomically correct dolls since 2004.”

Just to be clear – male and female.

My kids have never thought that vulva = a type of car.

kritiper's avatar

It is correct. If some people can’t handle the reality, it’s their problem.

Coloma's avatar

@anniereborn The link said that he wets when he cries. That’s a handicap. haha

jerv's avatar

I think the counter-protestors should wear this. [NSFW; you have been warned]

jonsblond's avatar

I’m going to be pretty pissed if it pees standing up.

LornaLove's avatar

Those are not really new. I recall them some 40 years ago. Where they went I have no idea. The ones to watch out for are the ones carrying guns!

gorillapaws's avatar

The real question: is it circumsized?

rojo's avatar

@gorillapaws I was wondering the same thing and whether or not you can get one either way.

Maybe it should ONLY come uncircumcised and then, if you choose, you can have it circumcised after purchase.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Is it Jewish? That’s the real question.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

After searching on the internet for a reason that a guardian would complain about this, nothing has cropped up. Why wouldn’t a parent want to have an anatomically male doll on the market?

A few thoughts:
1. Did the boys of my era who grew up with a GI Joe, Ken or Stretch Armstrong ever wonder why their doll didn’t have a penis?
2. Isn’t this a good way to introduce the differences between male and female at a young age? After all, it’s just body parts.
3. Had I been exposed (pun intended) to a doll like this, I would have better prepared for babysitting a boy still in diapers.

@gorillapaws Based upon the pictures of the doll, it is not circumcised.

hominid's avatar

The male dolls my kids have are not circumcised. Neither are my boys.
