Is that an example of 1st world problem? Yes. I still want to know the fact, for now. There’ s a medical term for it.

It’s called Sphenopalatine Ganglionneuralgia.

Seems like it depends on how much I ate how fast. I expect it might vary a bit by person, too. Always less than a minute, for me, if I recall correctly.

Searching the web for Sphenopalatine Ganglionneuralgia, I see some articles, which mention durations ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Ok. If I go with the minimum number of minutes, which is 2, that sounds like a very long time. An eternity, compared to my experience which is more like a 3 seconds or so.

…I mean according to the articles you mentioned “a few minutes”

It says they range from a few seconds to a few minutes.

It seems to me I remember the most pain lasting for a few minutes, and then a lingering pain for some more seconds, and maybe some sensitivity and fear of eating more cold for maybe a few minutes. ;-)

I’ve always called it brain freeze. The longest I can remember is about 10 seconds. Typical duration is long enough for me to say “Ow Ow Ow.” And then the pain is gone.

10 seconds about, with me.
It’s one of the most ‘pleasant’ tortures, I feel, in that it’s very freaking painful, but you instantly realize that it’s over rather fast.

Just for fun, look up cats brain freeze.

Mine will last over a min

About 10 seconds. It hits me across the bridge of my nose.

Maybe my “3 seconds” is too low. Pobably somewhere below 10 sec. If it,s minutes long something else is wrong and going to see the doc. good idea, as articles say I think.

Don’t you know? About 8 seconds for me.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

And no it’s not a first world problem. It will happen to anyone who eats something freezing too fast.

@ARE_you_kidding_me I think over a minute maybe too long. Could it be a symptom of something? I hope not. I mean we’re talking about 1 tea or tablespoonfull, right?

No, I eat like a machine and sometimes I pay for it.
