Germany.
I’m happy with Merkel, though I’m not a supporter of her party. She’s been good at handling difficult times in general, and I’m quite impressed this time around. Some are saying she hasn’t been doing enough, and I guess we’ll see if that’s true. However, she’s been clear and honest, very serious and gently optimistic. No sudden changes. She’s fully supported science and the facts, which she always does. Instead of wielding her full power, she’s tried to achieve the necessary social distancing by appealing to everyone’s sense of responsibility. She’s said that we’ll go on lockdown if other measures fail to have the desired effect, but it’s easy to see she balks at further restricting people’s movements.
That said, we are not experiencing the brunt of it yet. We have only a thousand people in intensive care for Covid-19, which leaves 27,000 free beds. Experts are saying that in a few weeks, beds will be scarce. It’s a race against time, setting up the necessary beds and equipment.
