^ I wasn’t referring to your procrastination. Boat projects much like redecorating a house always take longer and usually more money than originally anticipated. It’s just a fact of life

Boats are a massive money sink.

Someone was quoted as saying “The two happiest days in your life: the day you buy a boat, and the day you get rid of it.”

Have you ever done anything like that? My friend was a professional who did restorations like that, and the work is painstaking, meticulous, and skilled. I would never take it on, and I used to make my living selling and detailing wooden boats.

OTOH, if you like that kind of persnickety work, you just might enjoy it. It would take a looong time.

@SEKA -We’ve done boats before. The largest was a 1947 46’ Chris Craft DCFB.

@canidmajor -Yep, we have. The boat in my avatar is one that we sold a few years back.
My husband re-planked the port side and some of the starboard, along with mechanical stuff.
I repainted that along with refinishing the wood in the head,transom and swim platform.

If you go ahead and take this on, I don’t want to hear any whining.

@chyna -I trying to resist this urge. The avatar is our old beast and I really miss it.
The vision of cuteness that I am talking about is a much smaller scale. I showed my hub the email I got and he doesn’t like this boat.
He then sent me a pic of the one he likes which is in between the one I like and the whopper we used to have.
Then I reminded him of the guy at the marina who wanted to give us the exact boat he likes for nothing. He just wanted it out of the yard
It was pretty torn up but still could be done….

You should do what makes you happy. Dealing with an old boat, the expenses, hassles and nightmares for a payoff of being able to motor around for however many hours seems more like a nightmare than something that would make me happy. That said, some people are into getting tied up and spanked, so whatever floats your boat (couldn’t help myself).

One would always need a BIGGER boat.

Fixing up an old boat is worse than fixing up an old house. It is a huge money pit and the repairs never really end. Get one thing fixed and you will find 2 more than need fixing.

I remember see a boat with “The Money Pit” on Long Island Sound off the coast of Connecticut.

Restorations always take 1000X longer than you think they will.

Imagine how you would feel if you didn’t do it.

Then imagine how you would feel if you did do it.

Check your responses to each scenario to measure your feelings and you will have your own answer.

If it has been sitting out of water for years the wood has dried out and shrunk. There will be leaks everywhere. Sorry.

We used to keep our woodie hanging in slings for a day or two to soak up the water before launching.It’s hard to believe they float.
I am on the losing end of all this with my husband :)
