Could be an allergy.

I can contact dermatitis from weeding in the garden. Could be that?

Aster's avatar

Thanks. No; I don’t weed anything. Could it be from too much sugar?

chyna's avatar

Could be from using hand sanitizers or washing your hands more than usual.
I’m not a health care provider, so I was just throwing that out there.

My hands get really itchy in the evening.
Try hand moisturiser. It certainly helps me.

Aster's avatar

@chyna no; I never use hand sanitizers and wash my hands infrequently. lol. I don’t go out !

@Aster Maybe soak in cold water, that should help. Perhaps an airborne allergy?
My hands are really sensitive, too, so I soak in cold bleach water..

Did you use a different detergent or soap, etc…?

Just a question. Why would you even think it’s Diabetes? I have it and have never had itchy palms. Did your doctor have a guess what it could be besides saying “it’s not Diabetes”? Have you gone to a dermatologist? Other than the things already suggested, I’m afraid I haven’t a clue.

Are they hairy too?

KNOWITALL's avatar

@annieborn Google lists it as a possibe cause of itchy hands and palms.

anniereborn's avatar

@KNOWITALL Well if that’s the only symptom you have, not sure why it would even be a consideration.

Wild guess, but is it possibly from the nerve? Carpal tunnel can cause numbness, sometimes irritated nerves can feel like itch. Have you been using your smart phone or computer much more than usual. A lot of us are being home more with covid. You could let your hands and wrists rest for a day and see if it subsides. Try to see if it is worse after being online for an extended period.

My first guess would have been contact dermatitis as people said above, but it sounds like you have ruled that out.

Do you think the people here are smarter than your doctor?

Aster's avatar

@Darth_Algar yes, they’re quite hairy but I got a new electric razor that seems to keep the length at bay.

I have not seen my doctor about my palms. They only began itching yesterday and they are not itching now. It could be from the laptop.

I always associated itchy palms with liver issues.

Hard water? When I was a teenager my dad owned a house in Prescott Az and the water in that house always made my hands a little itchy. If I stayed longer than 1–2weeks my hands would eventually start peeling. The house was gorgeous, great neighborhood and lovely city but the water was atrocious.
