1) Have supplies in storage

2) don’t let politicians run the response.

Have a Pandemic Task Force (Tangerine make-up dissolved it) !

Don’t use the last adminstration’s pandemic playbook as toilet paper.

One lesson is that the US is not – and will not be – prepared to handle a pandemic. The only way this should have gone is for the country to shut down. But shutting down would have meant you’d have to pay everyone monthly to do so.

And listen to the scientists and believe them.

Smash the disinformation campaigns as quickly as possible.
Use reputable PR people to present scientific results. Don’t leave it to the boring scientists who confuse people with multi-syllable words.

Whaaaaaat?? Trump handled it great he put the travel ban on from China as the Rep/cons kept saying over and over .
You mean you don’t let a leading infectious disease specialist go, and replace him with an Xray tech?
Remember warm weather would just kill it off?
Hand over all responsibility to the national guard, and tell them it’s up to them to get people vaccinated .
What could be improved on that?

Should there ever be a zombie outbreak, you are all positively screwed.

stanleybmanly's avatar

I think the zombies are well entrenched here. @crazyguy has the total at 74 million.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

With the love of guns the states have @ragingloli they probably would do all right in that situation and if they don’t the Rep/cons would still put all the blame on the democrats.

Nomore_lockout's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 Yup, no worries. The good ol’ boy bunch will just gun down any ugly ass dead dudes the catch walking around. Which begs the question, why were there no casualties a few years back, with the nut jobs who were running around in clown suits trying to scare people? Seems like that would have been suicidal where I live.

Have extra PPE on hand at all times.

Stop flights coming into the country! Use quarantine immediately and clamp down hard where there are cases. All cruise ship passengers returning here go into strict quarantine. No movement in those cities, very targeted shut downs, and government helps with the financial costs of the quarantines. Try to contain the virus early.

Other parts of the country stay reasonably open and everyone wears masks.

As much as I like the idea of scientists having a big say, don’t forget our scientists said don’t wear a mask initially. I know it was because the country was unprepared, not enough PPE, but still I find that frustrating. Asia was effectively masking, we had examples.

Every flu season we should have reminders regarding washing hands, not touching our faces, and staying home if we feel sick.

Get the deficit down so we can afford emergencies.

jca2's avatar

Don’t throw out your masks when this one is over.

Don’t throw out your gloves when this one is over.

Don’t throw out your hand sanitizer when this one is over.

Keep a backup supply of toilet paper on hand.

JLeslie's avatar

@jca2 Yeah, I’ll always have an extra 12 at least of toilet paper for the rest of my life. Lol. Plus, stay in Hurricane ready mode all year now. Keeping a little more pantry food than I used to.

Never vote for sociopathic reality TV show hosts for President.

Kropotkin's avatar

@JLeslie The deficit has nothing to do with affording emergencies.

JLeslie's avatar

@Kropotkin Where does the money come from?

Kropotkin's avatar

@JLeslie The banking system. We have a credit money system. All money is debt, and it is all created from nothing.

For public spending, you have the central bank, which is the Federal Reserve. It can create any amount of money that the government needs or wants for its budget.

There is never a time that the government needs to run a surplus or to save money which it spends out of some treasury chest.

Love_my_doggie's avatar

Be sure to put Jared Kushner in charge again, but earlier and for the entire duration.

JLeslie's avatar

@Kropotkin If we can just run the printing press why collect any taxes or create FEMA for people to pay into? Fine you don’t agree with a surplus, but the amount of debt can be large or small. Once in the hole it gets harder and harder to get out over time. States have to run balanced budgets. I’m not saying the fed has to be balanced all the time, but we need to be more responsible than what is happening now.
