Based on the last time you used integral calculus would you say there is too much emphasis on teaching certain subjects at school?

If all that matters are work and life related issues, why teach history, art, science or algebra? There would not be any need for high school.

I’m an engineer. I used it a lot at work! Also it helps me in everyday life. I look at things a little more clearly using the basic ideas and techniques of calc. I’ve used it for diverse subjects like: home heat loss, pond leakage and refill rates, solar charging of outdoor lights, Ozone concentration and decay for killing Covid-19. I put results in an excel spreadsheet so I can model things more easily.

Let me just say, I could have done without all those hours of interpreting and dissecting poetry.

People use differential equations continually in my business, to the point of using the term “delta” as slang. “I’d give it an eighty delta that Tom can eat that whole sandwich in one sitting,”

@ragingloli About 50 years ago I took 4 semesters of German in college because I was studying to be a physicist and “many technical papers are written in German”.
The only things I remember are “Es gibt kein weg.” and the wonderful word “Gemütlichkeit.”
I’m still waiting to use them.

I almost despair when I read questions like this. You need only consider the role of calculus in the design of the device enabling you to ask this question and force the rest of us to blush on your behalf.
