I don’t think you can judge anyone from the outside as to their happiness level.

“Happiness’ is an elusive concept, and it may really be more accurate to talk about “contentment”. I disagree that happiness/contentment is related to ignorance. In many ways, we associate contentment with exterior conditions, which means that we are always on the lookout for future conditions that will bring us happiness. When in reality, contentment is largely* a spiritual project that has little to do with exterior conditions. It’s a condition of mind .

A baby because all of its needs are met in a comfortable setting and it doesn’t understand the world yet because its innocent.

One could argue that babies are, in fact, idiots, until they develop some self-awareness.

Good point. We can talk about contentment too, but I’m especially interested in the fleeting state of happiness (or maybe “joy”?) and what situations people connect that state to. For example, when I asked myself this question, I first thought of people hugging a loved one that was absent, possibly even presumed lost forever.

Maybe, @LuckyGuy if you subscribe to the theory that money buys happiness. I don’t.

He has $$ for sure, but he has a girlfriend who may love him only for hi money and her brother who tried to blackmail him, and an ex-wife (who has money, too) but probably has some resentment.

And then there’s the worry that his little baby Amazon may at some point lose some of its value.

So I’m not sure I buy into the idea of money making him happy.

@Duchess III You aren’t taking into consideration the damage inflicted on this country at the hands of Mr. Trump. Those 4 years reduced the United States to the world’s clown show. It was a cavalcade of the ridiculous, and the world JUSTIFIABLY made fun of us, and probably still does. It’s going to take years to live down the damage that fool did to our already ragged reputation and status.
